Michael P. Doyle, 80, a longtime resident of North Kingstown, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 20, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Rita T. (O'Brien) Doyle for fifty-five years.
Born in Duryea, PA, he was a son of the late James A. and Anna (Brennan) Doyle.
Mr. Doyle received a degree in physics from the University of Scranton and received a fellowship to Vanderbilt University.
He was a US Navy Veteran serving in Japan during the Korean War; where he received the National Defense Medal, United Nations Medal and the Korean Service Medal.
He was a health physicist for the State of RI, Atomic Energy Commission for twenty-eight years before retiring.
After his retirement, he worked as a bookkeeper for the Christian Brothers in Narragansett for twelve years.
He was a longtime member of the Wickford Lions Club.
An active communicant of St. Bernard Church, he was a member of the choir and served as a lector.
Besides his wife, he leaves four children, Michael E. Doyle and his wife Patricia of Noank, CT, Mary T. Doyle of Pawcatuck, CT, David P. Doyle and his wife Joanna of North Stonington, CT and Paul T. Doyle and his wife Anne Marie of Westerly; a brother, James Doyle and his wife Althea of Stonington, CT; and four grandchildren, Conor David, Clare Rose, Roan Michael and Fiona Grace Doyle. He was the brother of the late Marilyn Alaimo.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. Burial with Military Honors will be in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6 p.m. in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.
