William Shaw Alley II, 92, of Crandall Ave, Westerly, passed away peacefully, at home on July 15, 2014. He leaves his loving wife, June Hartford-Alley and his children, Kelly Diana Alley, Jennifer Christine Alley and George Bolton Alley III. Also, his step-children, Bradley B. Hartford, Jr., Michael L. Hartford, Kristen L. Hartford, Steven T. Hartford and Carolyn Hartford-Chouinard. He also leaves nineteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and played the trumpet for the Navy Band. He traveled throughout the Pacific Theatre and was stationed in Trinidad. He attended the University of Miami. Bill was a professional jazz musician for several years before going to work for Griffin Ford as a salesman and later as manager of their leasing company in New Rochelle, NY and Greenwich, CT.
He was an avid boater, skier and golfer. A direct descendent of John Adams, Bill was a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Born in New Rochelle, NY, Bill was the son of the late George Bolton Alley II and Irene Rose Alley. He was also predeceased by his sister, Norma Alley Stevens.
Visiting hours are omitted. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clare Church, Crandall Ave., Westerly, on Saturday, at 10 a.m., with Full Military Honors to follow. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Pius X School, 32 Elm St., Westerly, R.I. 02891 in Bill's memory.
