Barbara Lee Phillis

Phillis Barbara Lee Phillis, 80 of Zanesville, died 9:30 AM Saturday, March 8, 2014 peacefully at her residence. She was born Friday, July 21, 1933 in Zanesville, the daughter of William Kelly and May (Jacobs) Kelly. She married George Phillis on Saturday, April 16, 1955 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church by Monsignor Dury. Barbara was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church; a volunteer with The Muskingum County Animal Shelter Society and the Meals on Wheels Program. She was a member of Good Samaritan Charity Circle and assisted with the care of the altar linens at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, caring for her pool and bird watching. Most of all Barbara was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who greatly enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her husband of 59 years, George Phillis of the home, Barbara is survived by four children, Linda (Mike) Haren, Jay (Lori) Phillis and Kellie Cummins all of Zanesville and Doug Phillis of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren, Scott (Sara) Haren, Stephen (Keisha) Haren, Lacy (Ian) Robinson, Laura (Shane) Wolfe, Kaleigh, Clayton and Kelsey Cummins, Jacob Phillis and Megan Phillis all of Zanesville; six great-grandchildren, Leeann, J.T., Michael, Anna, Ella, Wynn; a sister-in-law, Joylyn Dodson of Corning; and her devoted pet companion, Jack. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by one son-in-law Michael Cummins. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at THE HILLIS, COMBS & NESTOR FUNERAL HOME, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville where a Christian Vigil with the Rosary Recited at 7:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 144 North Fifth Street, Zanesville with Fr. Peter Fagan, O.P. as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery.
