Dean Whitehouse Russell

RUSSELL Dean Whitehouse Russell, 89, died on December 5, 2012. A veteran of WWII, she was a WAVE in the US Navy, serving as a Petty Officer 2nd class in the Medical Corps. She was a charter member in the Women's National Memorial and very proud to have her photograph in that exhibit. The oldest of five girls born to Mary Maud Gibson and Ulysses Sherman Whitehouse, Dean was the last surviving of her sisters Katie, Sylvia, Rose, and Betty Carol. She leaves behind Kenneth R. Russell, her husband of 64 years; two sons, Kenneth Alan (Laurel Devaney) Russell and David (Joy) Russell; a daughter, Laura Russell; and two granddaughters, Natalie (Andy) Thomas and Amy Russell. A life-long Methodist, she was active in the United Methodist Women for many years and served two terms as president of that organization. She volunteered for over 20 years at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. After the war, she attended University of Louisville and later studied as a Medical Technologist at Norton Hospital, placing in the top 10 percent on her National Exams. Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, at Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church, 1636 Graham Rd., Reynoldsburg where family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral service. Cremation burial at Mifflin Township Cemetery. Memorial service at Wesley Ridge at a later date.
