Joseph A. Hawkins

Hawkins Joseph A. Hawkins, 70, originally of Christiansburg, Virginia, formerly from Columbus, Ohio and residing in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania passed away on the 27th of February 2014. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Andrew A. Hawkins and Eleanor D. Hawkins. Survivors include his two daughters, Jennifer Lynn Hawkins and Amy Leigh Paskins of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Wm. R. (Ronnie) Hawkins of Christiansburg, Virginia and Thomas H. Hawkins (Estella) of Houston Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; five grandchildren, Megan, Tyler, Andrew, Madilyn, and Alex Paskins; and great granddaughter, KyLeigh Paskins. He graduated from Christiansburg High School and continued his education by obtaining two AAS degrees in electronic and mechanical technology, a BS degree in computer science and a Master's Degree in Business Administration. He was a professional engineer (PE) in the states of Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Joseph worked in various roles in communications and wireless technology including the Director of Communications for the Pennsylvania Turnpike and other executive and management positions with other firms. He was a member of the US Army Reserves for 29 years, attended Officers Candidate School and retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He enjoyed hunting, was an amateur radio operator and was a Mason in the McDaniel Lodge #86 in Christiansburg, Virginia. Family will welcome friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43232, where service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday.
