Mary Ann Komives

Komives Mary Ann Komives, passed away Friday, April 19,2013. Born May 15,1932 to Andrew, Sr. and Mary (Fabian) Komives. Preceeded in death by her parents and brother Andrew Komives, Jr., and brother-in-law John D. Kossman. Survived by sisters, Margaret (Midge) and Lee Irons and Sharon Kossman; and sister-in-law, Barbara Komives; nieces, Mary Lee Cole, Sue (Sean) McGilvray, Melissa Victor) Yu and nephews, Steven Irons and Michael (Theresa) Komives; great-nieces, Brie O'Brien and Stephanie Komives; and great-nephews, Michael (Kelly) Cole, Matthew Cole, Kyle (Valena) McGilvary, Kellen (Kaitlyn) McGilvary and Michael Komives, Jr and William O'Brien; and two great-great nieces, Reah Cole and Kaydenz McGilvary; and great-great nephew, Trenton, and her very dear friend, Evelyn M. Heyman. Mary retired from the United Commercial Travelers of America (UCT) after 40 years as an underwriter, where she was instrumental in allowing women to become members in the fraternal organization. In forming Council #914 which was the first council to include women, later #914 merged with Council #1. She was the first female Past Grand President in Ohio. She was honored as the UCT Ohio Grand Fraternalist of the Year of 2007. Played in the City Women's Softball fast pitch league where she was the pitcher in the late 1950's. An avid OSU Buckeye football fan, attended home games even in a wheelchair in her later years. She loved being able to golf with her sister and volunteered with Columbus City Schools Special Olympics for a number of years. An eleven year cancer survivor. For years, where ever she went you would always see her carrying her beloved little white puppy Gilley. Viewing will be at MAEDER QUINT TIBERI FUNERAL HOME, 1068 S Hight St. Columbus, OH on Wednesday, April 24 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., with UCT Memorial Service at 8 p.m. Funeral mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Thursday, Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel, 6440 South High Street, on the grounds of St. Joseph Cemetery.
