Arthur Drumm Obituary

Drumm Arthur E. "Art" Drumm, age 84, of Marysville and a lifetime resident of Union County, died on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2014 at Carriage Court Assisted Living in Marysville. He and his wife, Roberta, were the owners of Marysville Rotary Broom Service from 1965 to 1985. In 1986, he established Drumm Industries, a push broom and specialty broom manufacturer. He was awarded multiple patents in the broom industry. In 2003, he formed a partnership with his son-in-law, Tom Mash, and established Custom Auger Systems, which specialized in horizontal earth augers. The two were granted a patent for the first horizontal boring auger design. He was well-known for repairing farm implements and machinery for his neighbors and friends. He was a 1948 graduate of Marysville High School and attended tool and die training following his military service. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War era. He was a member of American Legion, Union Post 79. For many years, he and his family enjoyed weekends at Indian Lake. During his retirement, his daily routine consisted of coffee breaks and his practical jokes with family and friends at Burger King and McDonalds. He also enjoyed feeding the deer and birds at his home. He was born December 6, 1929 on the Drumm Family Homestead, one of fourteen children, to the late Francis and Evelyn Warner Drumm. He was also predeceased by two sisters Wanda Henry and Marilyn Brown and four brothers Lloyd, Robert, Stanley and Donald Drumm. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Roberta R. Bumpus Drumm, whom he married March 22, 1952 in Reno, Nevada; three daughters, Jeanene (Ralph Davis) Briggs of Peachtree City, GA, Kimberly (Randy) Smith of Cañon City, CO and Rebecca (Tom) Mash of Middlesboro, KY; six grandchildren, Kimberly Beightler, Christopher "Matt" (Maria) Beightler, Stephen Beightler, Joshua Bradford, Anna (Shawn) Hyde and Austin "Hunter" Smith; three great-grandchildren, Eric Maxwell Velasco, Cameron Hyde and Kaylyn Hyde; his siblings, Pearl (Betty) Drumm, Carl Drumm, Wilma Noonan, Gloria Oates, Richard Drumm, Rodney (Patsy) Drumm and Francis (Marie) Drumm, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Hale; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and good friends, including David Green. Calling hours will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at UNDERWOOD FUNRAL HOME, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery. Rev. Jerry McQueen will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Humane Society. Condolences may be expressed to the family at [email protected].
