So sorry to hear of George's passing. He was a class ahead of me at the Academy, and we all remember many evenings at his house in Bexley. I saw him frequently during our banking days downtown, and do remember a joint CSG-Academy '61 reunion dinner. A wonderful guy!

On behalf of my classmates in the Yale Class of 1964, I extend condolences to Susan and the rest of George's family and friends. George had many friends in our class. We mourn his passing and will remember him on our Class Website (www.yale64.org) and at a memorial service on campus during our 50th reunion in May 2014. Anthony M. Lavely, Class Secretary

I remember George with fondness-- for his diligent, generous contributions. George made time to mentor many of us while treasurer for the bank in the 1980's and 90's.
As one of those he mentored, I recall occasions when his high expectations would turn to pruning and tending, almost as if we'd become his prized rose. He took such care to challenge and debate with us, and we would benefit from his astute insight about the bank and Wall Street investors.
I speak for many who appreciate how George offered generously of himself beyond what we could have expected. He enriched us by seeking out our thoughts, challenging our ideas through his breadth of expertise, and building our strengths through his not always so subtle influence. Over time, we have each sought to emulate his generous spirit and valuable gift.
I appreciate his clear desire—actually, GEORGE'S DELIGHT! --to strengthen an individual ...just as he would to make a single rose better.

My deepest sympathy to the Meiling family. I worked sometimes with George on credit card merchant pricing during the CNB/Bank One heyday for merchant credit card processing in the 70's/80's. He taught me many things and helped me to succeed. He was a very nice guy.

Dear Susy,
Came home to this news tonight (3/10) from a celebratory dinner. Although with heavy heart, it is the celebratory moments with which I associate George and so many fond memories of our Academy days -- nights in his garage in Bexley, laboring over some chemical concoction they wouldn't permit us to make in the lab at school, conversations about sports in which George had more statistics in his head than the sports page of the Columbus Dispatch could ever proffer, beautiful dinners and warm conversations at your house on reunion weekends. One of the pangs of not returning to Columbus in the after years was not getting to know George, and other classmates who didn't leave town, much better over time. Golly I, we, will miss him. All our best and our prayers to you. Fondly, Jim and Margaret Pollock

Dear Susan, Our sympathies are with you and your family. We enjoyed the many hours we spent with George through the Central Ohio Rose Society and The Columbus Rose Club meetings and activities as well as the time we spent at The Park of Roses with George. He was a wonderful, knowledgible and tireless educator for our national flower....The Rose. We visited with him at a rosé meeting in Delaware, Ohio several months ago. He will be missed by many.
