To the Hairston clan, Take comfort in knowning Pee Wee is in a better place, no more pain and no more suffering. Know that he lived a wonderful life. Pee Wee and Duke were our closest cousins and boy oh boy do we have great memories of them both!!!! Fish frys, chittlin dinners and just plain old good cooking, sitting in the garage, hanging in the driveway - whatever we were doing any time we went to their home was always a good time. All we had to do was to tell Duke, we had a taste for something and she would say, " Give me a couple days to work on Karl" - then a couple days later she would call us and say " he's fixing it such'n such day - you better come and get it before it is all gone." Just being at the house, seeing PeeWee walk in and pick at every one in the living room, one by one, you could just feel the love. Pee Wee and Duke are now together again - may they enjoy eternity together. They will both be missed, but we will hold to the memories!!!!

To John, Ricky, Sharon, Vicky, Delores and family:
Please accept my heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your father, Karl Hairston (Pee Wee). He was a brother-in-law and friend. I can recall when my husband, Ernie threw a blood clot to his lungs and things were not looking good. Pee Wee came to the hospital and his visit seemed to give Ernie the will to fight. I have so many good memories of our family visits, the jokes and the laughter. Please know that I love you and I will be praying for you. Our Heavenly Father is an ever present help in a time of need. He promised never to leave us nor forsake us. I have learned to rest on that promise.

He help keep the memory of my great grandmother, his oldest aunt and my grandfather, his oldest cousin alive. I enjoyed my visits to Columbus when I had an opportunity to chat with him. Seems like we were catching up on old times. I will sincerely miss him.

As children we can't comprehend or fully realize the meaning of our father's love. How tender, how wise, the patience and forgiveness. The part of every day, the unexpected little things he does in his own way. Years go by before we can look back on life and see through older eyes and wiser hearts his love and loyalty. And yet it's these and other special things we'll hold dear, for memories of his love will keep him ever near.
