Daniel Miller Obituary

MILLER Daniel C. Miller, age 79, of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg where he had resided for a year. Mr. Miller was born March 21, 1932 in Hutchinson, KS and was a son of the late Levi D. and Clara Nisly Miller. He was raised in Kansas then attended Eastern Mennonite College (EMU) where he met his wife, Anna Mae (Anne) Miller, who survives. They married on December 26, 1959. Dan was employed as a counselor with the public school system. He resided in Alberta, Canada for several years before settling in Columbus, OH for 41 years where the children were raised. He was a member of the Columbus Mennonite Church prior to moving to Virginia where he became a member of Shalom Mennonite Church. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, sports and especially golf. He will be remembered for his willingness to always help when there was a need and enjoyed his years of volunteering with a local hospital as well as Meals on Wheels. Surviving, in addition to his wife are his daughter, Susan "Renee" Skinner of Ardmore, PA; sons, Loren J. Miller of Ocean Springs, MS and Richard E. Miller of Seattle, WA; five grandchildren, Brian Skinner, Allison Skinner, Samuel Miller, Anna Miller and Maggie Miller; brothers, Edwin, Willis, Perry, Harry, David, Mahlon, Paul and Fred of Hutchinson-Partridge, KS area; and sisters, Elizabeth Wagler and Emma Troyer of Partridge and Mary Beachy of Kalona, Iowa; along with numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Community Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg. Interment will be privately held at Weavers Cemetery in Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the KYGER FUNERAL HOME in Harrisonburg. www.kygers.com.
