Orkis John Francis Orkis, age 82, died on May 22, 2014. He was born in St. Clairsville, OH to Clement and Helen (Piasecki) Orkis, who predecease him. He is also preceded in death by his brother Martin "Bob" Orkis. He is survived by sons, Bob (Hannelore) Orkis, John (Virginia) Orkis, Randy (Kitty) Orkis and the mother of his children, Edith Orkis; grandchildren, Kristen, Kenny, Kevin, Alexandria and Jacob; nieces, Barb (Willard) Congrove, Carol (Greg) Archer and Jenni (Ron) Rodgers; nephew, Mike (Rachael) Orkis; cousins, Joe (Jan) Orkis; caregiver, Marlene Mueller; many other cousins, relatives and loved ones. John is a former member of the Stonybrook United Methodist Church, Gahanna Lincoln Athletic Boosters Club, Highlands Golf Club and the Polish-American Club. He served in the United States Air Force and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired as an engineer with Western Electric/AT&T after 29 years of employment. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Stonybrook United Methodist Church, 485 Cherry Bottom Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Union Cemetery, 211 Maple Ave., St. Clairsville, OH 43950. Pastor Delton Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. Arrangements are entrusted to DAY & MANOFSKY FUNERAL SERVICE.
