Marybelle Baker, 90 passed away peacefully with family beside her, July 20, 2018, at Wesley Ridge Assisted Living Facility, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Marybelle was born August 28, 1927, Frankfort, Indiana to Nettie Marie Shawver Addams and David Marcus Addams and had one older brother, Cecil Huey Addams, all precede her in death. She graduated from high school at age 16 and attended cosmetology school in Indiana during World War II. Following the war, she married Richard Weldon Knapp, a soldier she met as a "pen pal" during the war. They moved to Nevada, Ohio, where they owned and operated a small grocery store. They had two daughters, Janet Marlene and Annette Marie. They sold their grocery store in 1955 and moved to Blanchester, Ohio where Richard owned and operated Knapp Construction Company. Marybelle was widowed at the age of 30 but went on to raise her two small daughters and, built a career working 25 years as a Supervisor for the State of Ohio Department of Taxation, Columbus, Ohio and retired in 1992. She continued working part time until she was 77 for the Victoria's Secret Catalogue Distribution Center, Columbus, Ohio. During her later years, Marybelle was briefly married to Ike Baker of Columbus, Ohio, a retired police officer. Those who knew Marybelle loved her positive, cheerful, attitude and joyful smile. She was a longtime member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church Senior Group and participant in a Bible study group taught by Sister Dorothy Lemon. She joined St. Pius X Catholic Church, August 2014, shortly before moving to Wesley Ridge in October 2014. Wesley Ridge welcomed her as family. Marybelle quickly made many friends and enjoyed the activities, but especially Bingo. Her greatest passion was her two daughters and their families. She loved every aspect of being a mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved traveling to see her family, and spending time with them. She treasured every shared visit, phone call, letter and most recently – FaceTime! Marybelle is survived by daughters, Janet Liebschner and Annette Schmidt; sons-in-law, Gary Liebschner and Keith Schmidt; granddaughter, Melissa Phillips, grandson-in-law, Brett Phillips; and great-grandsons, Joshua and Kellan Phillips who know her only as Super Nana! Super Nana's philosophy: "Life is what you make it. You can choose to be happy. Or you can choose to be miserable! I choose happy!" Memorial Services for Marybelle Baker will be held Saturday, August 18, 2018, 2 P.M., at the Kimes Chapel, Wesley Ridge Retirement Community, 2225 Taylor Park Drive, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Her final resting place will be Forrest Lawn Memorial Park, Columbus, Ohio. Memorial donations may be sent to Wesley Ridge and you can designate either the Wesley Ridge Charitable Care Program, the Wesley Ridge Employee Emergency Fund, or Hospice Services at Methodist Elder Care.
