Richard Emigh Obituary
Emigh, Richard
1933 - 2018
Richard "Dick" Emigh was born July 28, 1933, in Lexington, Michigan to William Emigh, a commercial fisherman, and Marjorie Doolittle Emigh, a school teacher. He graduated from Lexington-Croswell High School and then went on to business school. One of his first jobs was as a sales rep for Proctor and Gamble, and he traveled the country for the launch Jiff peanut butter. He married Patricia Falvey on February 13, 1960, in Detroit. Their family grew with the addition of four daughters – Karen, Colleen, Beth, and Margie. After P&G, Dick began a long and storied career in the insurance industry. In 1964, Dick and Pat settled in Gahanna and Dick joined the local Kiwanis club where he was a lifelong member. He was recognized with the Legion of Honor for 50 years of service in 2014. He met many kindred spirits through Kiwanis—not only for their dedication to service and community but also a shared love of golf and cards. As one friend so aptly put, you wanted Dick as your card playing partner and not your opponent. Where Dick shined was with his family. He was close to his siblings and enjoyed golfing and playing wild games of gin with them. He grumbled about being the lone male in a home of five women but loved every minute of it (although maybe not when they fiddled with the thermostat or took long showers). He remained devoted to Patricia, caring for her the last nine years as she fights Alzheimer's. Dick's greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren (Paul, Danielle, Charlotte, Simon, Kasey and Drew) and eagerly looked forward to their traditional vacation each July, as they did recently to celebrate his 85th birthday. Dick is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughters, Karen Saldana (Joseph), Colleen Golden (Jon), Beth Benedict (Albert) and Marjorie Welsheimer (Ty); six grandchildren; his siblings, William Emigh (Gwenda), Phyllis Andre (George) and John Emigh (Tara); seven nieces and nephews. Visitation is Monday, August 13, 2018 from 12-2PM with a 2PM memorial Service to follow at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gahanna Kiwanis Foundation, 480 Rocky Fork Drive, Gahanna, OH 43230, which provides educational scholarships.
