Valentino Skunza, passed away peacefully at the age of 88. He was born February 14, 1930, along with his twin sister Valentina, to the late Frank and Mary (nee Surgant) Skunca, also preceded in death by 10 siblings. Following Tino's graduation from St. Mary's South High School, where he played on the football team, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of numerous Catholic parishes throughout his lifetime and was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight with St. Jude Council 5801 Knights of Columbus. Tino retired from the City of Gahanna Street Department with 25 years of service. He married Rosemary Russo on May 7, 1955 and shared 63 years of marriage, life, family and adventures with her. They especially enjoyed cruises and other travel opportunities as well as gardening, canning and cooking. In addition to his devoted wife, Rosemary, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel (Kimberly) Skunza; granddaughters, of whom he was extremely proud, Kristen Skunza (Michael Heffelfinger) and Ashley Skunza; sisters, Valentina O'Connell, Dolores Baker and Carrie Skunca; numerous extended family members and friends. Visitation will be held 3-7pm Friday, September 14, 2018 (K of C service at 6:30) with funeral service 10am Saturday, September 15, 2018 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230. Interment to follow at Mifflin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
