Edward Menge Jr.

MENGE Edward Menge Jr. (b. August 13, 1938) of Columbus, Ohio, died on April 25, 2011, after a six week journey of complications from an emergency aortic aneurysm surgery. His wife of 42 years, Carole (Smatt); children, Amanda (Jonathan Kenney) and Jason (Lainie Monica); granddaughters, Mara Kenney and Emma Menge (his "buddy"), celebrate the gift of his life the last almost eight years following a lung transplant in June 2003. He will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his mother Helen (Merrick) and his father Edward Menge Sr. He is survived by his brother, Gerard, Ledbetter, Texas; and cousin, Theresa Saile Bowers (Donald), Columbus, Ohio, and her children and their families. Born in Charleston, West Virginia, Ed relocated with his family to Columbus when he was 13. He graduated from West High School in 1958 and enlisted in the Army. He became a military police officer and served in the Panama Canal Zone. Upon discharge, he entered The Ohio State University where he received his Bachelor's degree in International Studies, Latin America; his Master's degree in Comparative Politics/International Relations and his Ph.D. in Political Science/Organizational Behavior. During his extensive educational career, he held the role of educator to many Central Ohio students at The Ohio State University as an Assistant Professor of Political Science and the Director of the Behavioral Science Laboratory. For over 20 years he was a Professor of Marketing and Business Management at Franklin University and served as the Chairperson of both the Division of Public Administration and Division of Business Management. He also served as a lecturer at Capital University, Urbana University, Otterbein College and Ohio Dominican University. Since 1996 he served as an Adjunct Professor at Columbus State Community College serving across many business related technologies. Dr. Menge's community service included membership on the Governing Board of Southeast, Inc. Recovery and Mental Healthcare Services and the Community Shelter Board Rebuilding Lives Updated Strategy Steering Committee. He served as a member of the Roster of Neutrals of the State of Ohio Employment Relations Board, the Ad Hoc Arbitration Panel of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service and as a Dispute Mediator with the Community Mediation Service of Central Ohio. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011, at 1 p.m., at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 93 West Weisheimer Road, Columbus, Ohio 43214.
