Emmitt O'dell Hightower Obituary
Minister Emmitt O'dell Hightower was born on April 7, 1936 in Palestine, to Julius and Lounettie Hightower.
He was united in holy matrimony to Rachel P. Pendleton in 1964. To this union three children were born, including one son and two daughters. He was a member of Jericho COGIC from 1966-1969 and later moved to Kansas City, Mo., and united with Bales Temple COGIC under the leadership of the late Elder Willie Wyatt. He was a deacon and later became a minister. He remained there until his pastor's death. Emmitt's last church membership in Kansas City was at New Jerusalem COGIC under the leadership of Elder Chester A. Gray, where he faithfully served. He later moved back to Palestine in 2000.
Emmitt departed this life on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, with his two daughters at his bedside.
Emmitt was preceded in death by his mother, father, a brother, O.D. Cooperwood and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Walker.
He leaves behind to celebrate his life his wife, Rachel P. Hightower; his son Marlon O'dell Hightower; his oldest daughter, La` Tasha Da` Nica Hightower; and his baby daughter, MaKeshia L. Jackson-Harvey (Craig), all of Kansas City, Mo; eight grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation for Minister Emmitt O'Dell Hightower, 82, of Palestine, will be Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, from 10 a.m., until the time of the service at 11 a.m., at the Jericho Jericho Church of God in Christ. Pastor Lincoln Taylor will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in Jericho Cemetery.
Kincaid Funeral Services of Forrest City is in charge of arrangements.
