Ira L. Dodd Obituary
Ira L. Dodd was born Dec. 23, 1932, to the union of Eagle and Beulah Price. To this union were also born brothers Thomas and Evans Jr. who all preceded her in death.
Ira's family moved to Chicago, Ill. from Haynes in her early years. It was in Chicago that she met and married Nathaniel Dodd Sr. This union welcomed four children, Nathaniel Jr., Deborah (married to Billy W. Steverson), Florence and Barbara. She was continuously a hard-working wife and mother.
Ira attend Madame C.J. Walker Cosmetology College and became a licensed cosmetologist following in her mother's footsteps. Ira also worked at Tootsietoy Strombecker Corp. where after a 37-year career she retired.
Ira's joy and love for others flowed out of her relationship with the Lord and was rooted in her Lord Jesus Christ. She demonstrated God's qualities as an ordained licensed minister at Christway Baptist Church of Chicago under the leadership of Rev. Consuela York & Pastor John York.
Ira was a very independent thinker, enthusiastic conversationalist, skilled bridge player and forever elegant and beautiful. She never met a stranger and made friends wherever she went. She was happiest when discussing the word of God, barbequing, having cookouts, and Mexican food cook-ins. Everyone fortunate enough to partake of her expertise would proclaim her "the ultimate Pit Master."
In the closing chapters of her life, Pastor Billy W. Steverson filled the role of her pastor and son-in-law in Forrest City, at Greater Mount Olive Outreach Ministries. It was from the home of Pastor Billy W. Steverson and his wife Deborah that Ira made her peaceful exit. Hallelujah to our God!
Ira leaves to cherish her wonderful life a living legacy of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many loved ones. She was cherished here on earth and will be sorely missed and always remembered as a most elegant and charming lady.
