STATESBORO - Mr. Jimmy Murray Anthony, Sr. passed away peacefully, August 31, 2015, at Southern Manor Retirement Inn, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice, following a long battle with Alzheimer's. Jimmy was born on January 30, 1938, in Upson County, Georgia. He graduated from Yatesville High School in 1956 and attended Norman Park College. Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother, former Frances Rebecca Dinkins and his father, Eugene Nathaniel ("Gene") Anthony, two brothers, Oliver Anthony and Waymon Smith, and a sister, Eleanor Smith Giddens. Jimmy moved to Bulloch County in March of 1966, with Goodyear. He later was employed with Curtis Youngblood Furniture. In 1972 he began a career which he absolutely loved, as a State Farm Insurance Agent and worked three months shy of 42 years. He retired from State Farm Insurance in February of 2014, due to his illness. Jimmy was a member of Gracewood Baptist Church, where he served numerous positions for many years and was instrumental in the addition of the family life center. He loved the Lord, and cherished his church family. In 1991 he followed a vision that God had given him to start a program to feed the community at Thanksgiving. With the help of the Lord, a few friends and family, he planned and orchestrated "Gracewood, Feed the Community", which later developed into "Feed the Boro", as many individuals, churches and organizations joined forces and grew from feeding approximately 100 people , to feeding thousands in Bulloch and surrounding counties during Thanksgiving. Because of his service, Jimmy was recognized with a Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Award in 1994. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Kay Edenfield Anthony of Statesboro; a daughter, Susan Anthony of Metter; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy (Jimbo) Anthony, Jr. and Justin and Diedre Anthony of Statesboro and Darlene Anthony of Sylvania; Nine grandchildren, Chris Johnson, Ashley and Duff Ayers, Casey Johnson Moore and Preston, Jimmy "Trey" Anthony III, Courtney Johnson, Chelsea Gantt, Kyzer Anthony, Melody Anthony and Daphne Anthony; two great-grandchildren, Preslee Moore and Jackson Moore; one brother and sister-in-law, Alton and Faye Smith of Metter; and his former wife, and friend, Ginger Gregory of Statesboro; many nieces and nephews and a beloved pet, "Brownie". Visitation will be Wednesday, September 2, 2015, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro. The funeral service will be Thursday, September 3, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner- Anderson Funeral Home, Rev. Dan McCance, Rev. Carl Ledbetter and close friend, Quincy Waters officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be nephews, Mike Anthony, Marvin Anthony, Dwayne Anthony, Kevin Stokes, Keith Smith, Broc Cox and Garrett Cox. Honorary pallbearers will include: Participants of "Feed the Boro", employees of State Farm Insurance, Southern Manor Retirement Inn and his personal caregivers. The family would like to express their gratitude to his many special caregivers, Ogeechee Area Hospice, and Southern Manor Retirement Inn. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to "Feed the Boro", 23 Jef Road, Statesboro, Ga. 30458; Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, Ga. 30459 , Alzheimer's Assoc. of The Coastal Empire, 201 Television Circle, Savannah, Ga. 31406 or Gracewood Baptist Church, 12376 Hwy 301 South, Statesboro, Ga. 30458.
