Walter Hammock

THOMASTON - Rev. Walter Alva Hammock, age 86, formerly of Thomaston, and always considered Pleasant Valley as his home, died on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Georgia Senior Solutions Center in Social Circle, Ga.

Rev. Hammock was born in Upson County to the late Walter Allen and Dezzie Lee Hammock. He retired after 37 years from the General Motors Company in Doraville, Ga., in the Quality Control Department. He is also a veteran of the U. S. Army during WWII in Europe.

Rev. Hammock is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Clara Hammock of Snellville; daughters, Marcia D. (John Charles) Hammock Hancock of Snellville, and Angela H. (Curtis) Lynch of Social Circle; son, Walter Keith (Rita Gayle) Hammock of Franklin, Tenn.; and sister, Enil (Whitie) Schultz of Crawford County, Fla. Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral arrangements for Rev. Hammock will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, that donations may be made to the local , Georgia Chapter, 277 MLK Jr. Blvd., Suite 201, Macon, GA 31201.
