John Brockman, Sr. Obituary

John M. Brockman, Sr., 90, of West Point, VA went to be with his Savior and Lord on March 25, 2013 at MCV Hospital in Richmond, VA. John was born in Orange County, VA on August 12, 1922 and had been a resident of West Point since 1946.
John is preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Alice Baker Brockman; four siblings, Betty, Kate, Billy, and Louise, all of Orange County, VA.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ann Sherwood Brockman; one son, John M. Brockman, Jr. (Billie), of Richmond, VA; a daughter, Sherwood Brizendine (Neil), of West Point; three grandsons, Evans Brizendine (Shelia), Jay Brockman, and Will Brockman, of Richmond, VA; a granddaughter, Tausha B. Smith (Jerome), of Jacksonville, NC; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Brizendine, Madelyn Brizendine, of Richmond, VA, and Meredith Smith, of Jacksonville, NC; a dear sister-in-law, Lib F. Brockman, of Orange County, VA; many special nieces and nephews, two like daughters, Jeanie B. Sturtz and Louise Lawson, both of West Point; also many step-nieces and nephews.
John had been a member of Brett-Reed Memorial Presbyterian Church, Sweet Hall, VA, for 63 years, having moved his membership from Macedonia Christian Church, Lahore, VA.
He was a country and Bluegrass musician since age 15, playing mainly the fiddle, which he loved dearly. He brought a good bit of cheer to his family, friends, and acquaintances for whom he cared sincerely, and he leaves his love and prayers with all.
Anyone desiring to honor John's memory may donate to the West Point Fire Department and Rescue Squad, the West Point Ministerial Association for the Good Neighbor's Center, or a charity of your choice.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Brockman was my neighbor for many years. He was the kindest man anyone will know. He would come over whenever he saw anyone in the yard, simply to see how our day was going. Him and his wife brought a sparkle to our lives for many years.
