Ethan Chadwick Obituary
Ethan Chadwick was born Oct. 10, 2003, in Jamestown, ND, to Amanda Chadwick and Jerod Altringer. Ethan attended school in Jamestown, ND, North Central, Litchville, ND, and at Barnes County North. He was very active in BMX bike activities at skate parks in Valley City and Fargo. Ethan enjoyed archery, attending state archery and played basketball at North Central School. He had a passion for building derby cars with his dad, racing go carts, 4-wheelers, helping Grandpa Bill with his pay loader and dozer services and everything camo. He recently found joy in the robotics classes at Barnes County North School. Ethan also enjoyed his time attending Sunday School, confirmation and volunteering at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Sanborn. Ethan had a special relationship with his sister, Alexa. He was often protective, teaching her everything, letting her follow him everywhere. She would always want to do what Ethan did and he would tend to rope her into his shenanigans. Ethan was an empathetic young man; always caring about others and putting himself in other people's shoes. He was smart, witty, and a bit of a jokester. Even though he could be fearless and a bit of a troublemaker, he always maintained his respect for law enforcement, trusted them and made them his friends. Ethan was a regular at J&L Bar & Grill in Sanborn, ordering his usual of orange juice. It was also here he would get to know many of the local farmers, schmoozing them for info on weather damage and the outlook of their crops.
Ethan is survived by his parents, Amanda (Terry Hollinshead) Chadwick, Valley City, and Jerod (Jana Fillbrandt) Altringer, Sanborn; sister, Alexa; half-sister, Emma; grandparents, Sandy (Robert) Opp, Jamestown, Keith (June) Chadwick, Eldridge, ND, and Bill and Jeanine Altringer, Sanborn; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his many friends and classmates.
Ethan was preceded in death by great-grandparents Dick and Luella Amann and great-aunt Vicki Chadwick.
A memorial fund for Ethan has been set up at Bank Forward.

despite all these months the pain is still very much here and real. sometimes i dream of you still being here and what it would be like if you were still here, i wake up everytime crying and telling you not to leave me. i went out to see you a couple days ago, and didnt realize how hard it would hit me, my brain cant take the thought that you are still gone.. i love and miss you ethan..

When i was in 2nd grade with Ethan C.. our teacher Mrs. Hougen, made me and Ethan C partners to play mancala, every time if I win I would laugh really hard and then he would laugh also.

Though we are strangers I am a friend of his Aunt Holly's and I wanted to say how very sorry I am for the loss of Ethan. Being a parent and a grandparent the grief you are feeling is beyond anything I have known and I cannot put myself into your place but to say my heart aches for you all. We lost another neighbor recently who was 10 I know he met Ethan at the gates of heaven and they will walk together. Forever watching over their families and forever be a missing piece in your heart. Dear Chadwick and Altringer Families:
I wish to express my condolences at the passing of Ethan which news I received from Fr. Joseph Barrett while I was in Jamestown for the Annual Presbyteral Days.
As I had been reassigned to Fargo for my priestly service since Jun 2013, it had been some time since I last saw Ethan when he was no more than about 9-years old.
When I received the news of his death, I found myself hardly able to believe that this news was actually true. On my way returning back to Fargo from Jamestown, I stopped at Sanborn and was able to have a short visit with Jeanine. I remember seeing Ethan with his grandparents Bill and Jeanine at church in Sanborn from the time he was no more than 3-yrs old until the time I left the Oriska/Hope/Sanborn Tri-Parish. I remember also visiting the families at certain times over the years while I was at the Tri-Parish, and I remember Ethan as being a very happy-go-lucky little guy. I even remember the time that Jerod once so kindly helped me with something on my car at the body shop for which I was very grateful.
This is indeed a most sad and tragic circumstance, and I will pray for Ethan and his family. It seems to hit the senses and emotions so much harder when it is the case of such a young child.
+ Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him: May he rest in peace, and find a new home with the Angels and Saints.

We were so sorry to hear about Ethan's death...such a great loss. Sadness fills my heart for all of you. My grandkids are cousins and loved him so much and will miss him terribly.
