Inge Hastings Obituary

INGE JEANETTE HASTINGS 1936-2018 Jeanette was born August 8th 1936 in Eureka, CA to Reinhold and Lilly Hansen. She was the oldest of four children. She passed away peacefully January 7th at St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka, CA. Jeanette was raised in Ferndale, CA where she attended Ferndale Elementary School and graduated from Ferndale High School. From a young age, she was passionate about cooking, working in several restaurants and eventually went on to own and operate The Sportsman Cafe in Rio Dell. Jeanette would later go on to manage the Ebb Tide RV Park and Summer Creek Place Retirement Community. Jeanette enjoyed gardening and took pride in growing beautiful begonias every year. She was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles. Jeanette loved music, especially jazz. Over the years, she attended many jazz festivals, both locally and out of the area. Throughout Jeanette's life, she endured many life challenges including the loss of two adult children, cancer and chronic kidney disease. In spite of these circumstances, she always maintained a positive spirit. She was kind and gentle and seldom had a harsh word to say. Her strength came from her family and her faith in God. Her bible was never far from her side. Jeanette was preceded in death by her mother and father, Reinhold and Lilly Hansen, former husbands, Ernest Brownlow, Ford Hastings and dear friend Carl Rucker. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Herbert and Bernard Hansen, her daughter Marcie Allmon and her son Tim Brownlow. Jeanette is survived by her sister Betty Bellar (Tom). She is also survived by her children Greg (Beth) and their three sons, Ron (Jenny), James and Jeremiah, daughter-in-law Ardie Brownlow and her daughters, Miranda and Kassi, Monica Olson (Keith) and their children Lindsey Werner (George) and Cameron Olson (Alaina), Jenny Webster and daughter Shelby and Wendy Schroeder. She was blessed with Great Grandchildren Mikayla and Cadence Brownlow and Holden and Rhett Werner. Jeanette was known by those who loved her as Gramma Nettie. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of the St. Joseph Hospital Oncology Department as well as Dr. Allen Matthew, Dr. Teresa Marshall and Dr. Ellen Mahoney. A celebration of Jeanette's life will be held at the Ferndale City Hall, 834 Main St. Ferndale Ca. on March 3rd from 2 to 5pm. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com

Jeanette was a wonderful person. I grew up with her in Ferndale. We were best friends and together nearly everyday, playing, exploring, walking Francis Creek from one end to the other. So many wonderful memories. It was a sad day when I moved from the neighborhood to another part of town. my condolences to the family.
