Obituaries from the Past Three Days

Simera, Joseph J.
JOSEPH J. SIMERA 11/12/1927 - 3/23/2015 Joseph Simera went home to be with the Lord on March 23, 2015. He passed peacefully in his sleep, to be reunited with his wife of 64 years, Rosemary and their youngest son Billy. Joe was born on November 12, 1927 in Steubenville, Ohio to Louis and Rose Simera. Joe served in the United States Army during World War II. Upon returning home he met his soon to be wife on a blind date. They married within a year. Joe set out with his brother in law to Alaska for adventures and a new life for his family. Car trouble and no job opportunities detoured them to Washington. Word of a new steel mill opening in Fontana, CA sent them south instead. Joe and Rosemary settled in Fontana and raised 5 children; David, Mark, Josie, Gina and Billy. Joe worked for Kaiser Steel Mill for 30 years. In 1987, Joe and Rosemary relocated to Humboldt County to enjoy their retirement. Joe loved to fish in the ocean and was an avid golfer at Eureka Muni Golf Course. If you were to meet him on the course, you wouldn't be soon to forget him. He had a quick wit that hooked you in. Joseph is survived by his children Dave and Kitty Simera, Mark Simera, Josie Brock and Gina and Dennis Parrott. He will be missed dearly by his eleven grandchildren: Carrie, Jeremy, Mark, Jarrett, Kenny, Joseph, Raina, Michael, Kalyn, Anthony and Andrea. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30th at 10:30 am at St. Bernard's Church in Eureka. Graveside service immediately following at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery at Ocean View Cemetery. We will also be honoring the memory of Billy Simera, son, brother, uncle and father who was taken from us on February 1, 2015. Special thank you to Scotty and Connie of Hospice and all of Hospice of Humboldt staff and Dr. Alan Matthew and his staff for all your kindness. Please sign the guestbook at under Obits.
