Jay M. Rezzonico

Jay M. Rezzonico was born in Sydney, Austraila, June 20, 1925 and she died in Eureka on January 21, 2013. She is survived by her daughter Linda Lorenzo of Texas and her son Keith Rezzonico of New Hampshire, her grandchildren Tim Lorenzo (Karen) of California, Heather Frost (Jamie) of Texas, Justin Rezzonico of Colorado and Kristi Rezzonico of New Hampshire, her great-grandchildren Alex, Sophie and Gemma of Texas and Ashley (Jeff) and Tia of California, her great-great-grandson, Brayden of California. She married Joe Rezzonico during the war, May 20, 1944 and came to the Unites States in September of 1945 on a ship with 500 other war brides. They made their home in Orick, then Arcata, where she was proud of being a homemaker and raising her family. In 1969 she became the Executive Director of the American Cancer Society. In 1974 she moved to San Francisco to be the Community Development Officer for the West Coast Cancer Foundation. She moved back to Eureka in 1977 and worked for St. Joseph's hospital, first as Director of Volunteers and then as Director of Community Affairs. She was one of the developers and founders of Hospice of Humboldt in 1979. A few years later she became their Executive Director. Although she retired in the late 1980s, she remained extremely active in the community, volunteering and serving on numerous boards including Planned Parenthood, ACS, Hospice of Humboldt, Hospice Thrift Shop, CASA, Vector Health, Eureka Inn Diamond Jubilee, Pacific Arts Center, and the Committee for Breast Health Center. A special thank you goes to her caregiver and friend, Peg Roche, Greg Anderson, Sharon Nelson, as well as Jay's numerous other friends who took such good care of her in her later years. Her family invites you to join in a celebration of her life on Saturday, January 26th at 2:00pm at the Wharfinger Building at 1 Marina Way in Eureka.
