Jeannie Marie Kirk

Jeannie Marie Kirk Jeannie affectionately called "Jean" left to be with the Lord on October 22, 2012. She was born December 7, 1957 in Hoopa, Ca. Jeannie was a member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe and Yurok and Karuk descendant. When Jeannie was young she use to dance in the Brush Dance and Jump Dance. She proudly sang her own songs for the Brush Dance. Together with her husband, they made traditional dance dresses and jewelry. They always were picking up traditional sticks to use. Later in life she became a Christian and participated in church locally. One of her favorite past times was watching her favorite church channel of Jimmy Swaggart. Her other favorite television shows were Love it or List it, Dr. Quinn and the Waltons. For eleven years Jeannie worked for the Klamath Trinity Unified School District in various positions. She loved working directly with the kids. But first and foremost she was a great house wife, good mother, grandmother, auntie and cousin. Jeannie survived by her husband, Walter "Joe" Kirk, one daughter Sonya Campbell and husband Richard of Ukiah, three sons Brian Dennison and wife Danielle of Clear Lake, Walter Kirk and wife, Monique, and Mitchell Wayne Kirk all of Hoopa. She also took under her wing caring for Ramerias Ameris as a son of Hoopa. Jeannie also left behind eight grandchildren, Alycia, Tehya and Kailiah of Ukiah, Billy Lee and Joanna Kirk of Hoopa, Clarissa, Brittany, and Anthony Dennison of Clear Lake Ca.. She was also excited for her future grandbaby on its way. Jeannies' parents, the late Leo Carpenter Sr., father, and Mildred Montgomery mother, and husband, Russell. Her mother-in-law Rose Davis and the late Chester Davis Jr.. Her brothers, Leo Carpenter Jr., Thomas Blake, and Joey Montgomery. Sisters: Sherrall Masten, Linda Miller, Sally Slater, Debbie White, Cherie Bones, and Tammy Carpenter all of Hoopa.. Her sister-in-law Billie Britton that Jeannie called "Auntie" and Brother-in-laws Ron Kirk, and Carl Laverne Slaughter. Nephews: Ed Davis, Michael Masten, Eugene Masten, Melbourne Miller Jr., Darrin Marshall, Leo Carpenter III, Delane Slater, Richard Carpenter, John Carpenter of Portland, Zack Britton, Derrick Davis, Timothy Davis Jr. of Covelo, Gurell Scribner also of Covelo. Nieces: Allison Carpenter of Sacramento, Carrie Coffman of Applegate Oregon, Leslie Colegrove. Patricia Masten, Angel Masten, Lucinda Miller, Melva Miller and Melinda Miller, Larissa Offield, Angela McConnell, Renee Britton, and Lola Bones all of Hoopa. Six Great Nephews. Sixteen Great Nieces. She also leaves behind numerous great aunts, great uncles and many cousins. The family apologizes if anyone was not mentioned as Jeannie had a very large loving family. She was preceded in death by Owen Ray Britton Whipple, great/great/great nephew, Samuel Campbell, uncle, Joaquin Miller, nephew, Little Joe Masten, nephew, Timothy Davis Sr., brother in-law, Leo Carpenter Sr., father and Earl and Lucinda Griffith, grandparents. Pall Bears are: Billy Kirk, Mitchell Kirk, Michael Masten, Eugene Masten, Richard Campbell Jr., Ron Kirk, Carl Laverne Slaughter, Romiro Ramirez, Jimmi Moon, Zacharias Britton, and John Carpenter. Honorary Pall Bears are: Leo Carpenter Jr., Russell Montgomery, Melvin Moon, Gerald and George Moon, Bill Carpenter Sr., Jonathan Leach, Ben Branham, Harold Campbell, Melbourne Miller Sr., Melbourne Miller Jr., Ed Davis, and Bud Moon. Visitation will be Friday, October 26, 2012 from 4-8pm at Pauls Chapel in Arcata. On Saturday October 27, 2012 services will be held at the Neighborhood Facilities Hoopa Tribal Office Highway 96 Hoopa at 2 pm. She will be laid to rest at the Carpenter Family Plot Norton Field Hoopa.
