Jon Richard Larson

Jon Richard Larson Jon Richard Larson of Blue Lake passed away in Eureka on December 14, 2013 at the age of 91. He was born November 18, 1922 to John and Dorothy Larson in Princeton, Illinois. His studies at the University of Illinois were interrupted during World War II as he served with the 97th Infantry Division in Europe and then occupied Japan. He returned to the Universituy of Illinios, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Operation. Following employment with several construction firms in the San Francisco Bay Area, Jon began his 30 year career with the National Park Service. His field assignments included Rocky Mountain National Park, Bryce and Zion National Parks, Yellowstone National Park, National Scenic Riverways in Missouri, Natchez Trace Parkway, Tupelo, Mississippi and Redwood National Park as a N.P.S. construction supervisor on the 101 bypass, retiring to Blue Lake in 1987. Jon and Barbara were married in San Francisco in 1957, and raised their family of five children in these scenic American locations. He is survived by his wife Barbara of Blue Lake, daughters Sally Larson and Ruth Larson of San Diego, son Karl Larson of Smyrna, Georgia, and sons Leif Larson and Jon C. Larson of Blue Lake. He is also leaves two sisters-in-law, Betsy Larson and Lois Roth, two nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Donald T. Larson, his sister Margaret Johnson, brothers-in-law Edward Roth and Dale Johnson, and nephew Grant Roth. A memorial service will be held on January 4, 2014 at 1:00 at First Covenant Church 92526 J Street, Eureka) where Jon was a faithful member.
