Richard Dean Schlesiger Sr.

Richard Dean Schlesiger Sr. Rich was born on March 3, 1948 to John and Phyllis Schlesiger in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 16th surrounded by his loving family after enduring a lengthy illness. His family moved to California when he was 10 years old. He lived on Humboldt Hill and attended South Bay Elementary. He next attended Jacobs Junior High and then graduated from Eureka High School in 1966. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Marines. Rich was a jet mechanic while serving in the Vietnam War for 14 months of his four-year commitment to his country. When he returned to the United States in 1969, Rich married his high school sweetheart, Pam. They returned home to Eureka in 1970 and Rich went to work for the United States Postal Service in Fortuna. They lived in Loleta for 25 years and then moved back to Eureka. Rich's family meant everything to him. Rich was preceded in death by his Dad, John and other extended family members. He is survived by his loving wife, Pam; his two sons: Rich Jr. and his wife, Morgan; Ryan and his wife, Heidi; and his 5 grandchildren: Chaz, Cade, Callee, Tyler and Blake. They were the joy of his life. Rich also leaves his Mother, Phyllis; his brother and best friend, John Jr.; his sister, Peggy and her husband, Bill Jackson; his sister Jody and her husband, Jim Livingston; and many nephews, nieces and their families. He loved you all so much. The family would like to extend special thanks to everyone at Hospice of Humboldt, his amazing medical and support team and the many friends who showed love and support throughout the years. The family will be having a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Humboldt or the .
