Russell (Russ) Marsh Russell Loren Marsh passed away from this world on Wednesday, March 13th, 2013. He will be missed by many friends and family members who loved him dearly. Russell was born on August 10th, 1953, in Pasadena, California, to his parents Richard Allen and Peggy Francis. He grew up in Arcadia and La Canada, California, attending La Canada High School. As a child, he loved snow skiing, swimming, and fishing. His favorite pet was his beloved dog Scotty. Russ came to Humboldt County in the late 70's. He staked out a gold mine claim on the Klamath River near Orleans. He then purchased a shoe repair business in Eureka, next to the Eureka Theatre. Russ attended College of the Redwoods, where he studied diesel mechanics. He put his learning to good use when he bought an old Greyhound bus and restored it and transformed it into an RV. He would later become a mobile mechanic, and he spent the rest of his life traveling into out of the way places to help hundreds of folks get their cars and trucks up and running again. Russ had a passion for life, and he loved to excel at whatever he did. He was an expert welder, and he could fabricate just about anything. He put his skills and talents to good use on a beautiful property he bought on Warren Creek, in Arcata. He built his own home, and then a large shop, where he could pursue his many projects and hobbies. He was an avid gardener and a magnificent chef, often cooking with his own fresh veggies and greens. He put a lot of time and attention into making a meal 'just right'. If dinner was at 5, his friends knew the eating would actually begin closer to 11. His homemade pasta and pesto were unsurpassed! He loved rafting the wild rivers of the North Coast. He inspired many others to love and care for our beautiful environment. He was a great stickler for detail, and had an impeccable safety record. Some mothers would only take their kids on his raft. He often took his friends down the river for weekend camp-outs. Later, Russ transferred his passion for the river to the skies! He first flew a tiny experimental plane that was little more than wings and motor. He then put together more sophisticated planes from kits, doing everything with his own two hands. But just flying wasn't enough for Russell Marsh. He learned aerobatics from one of the best stunt pilots in America. He thrilled many of his friends with the 'ride of a lifetime!' Russ's Mom was an accomplished pilot, so it was no surprise when Russ married another female pilot, Shauna Burrow. He and Shauna went on many flying trips together all over the country. Russ also learned to fly in his inner world. He attended many meetings and retreats with his spiritual teachers Eli Jaxon-Bear and Gangaji. Russ loved to speak about his realizations with any who would listen, and he spent many hundreds of hours sharing his videos and tapes on spiritual awakening. Russ is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Peggy Marsh. His Grandparents and beloved dog Scotty. Russ is survived by his sister Karen MArtin of Scottsdale, Az, newphew Daniel O'Krey of San Diego, Ca, Step-mother Billye Marsh of Nipomo, Ca., step-sister Nancy Soyster of Nipomo, Ca., and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. We will all miss Russ's innocent smile and warm, open heart. We will Celebrate his life on Saturday, March 30th, at noon, near his hangar at Samoa airport. All are Welcome!
