Stanley Jack Baird Ph.D.

Stanley Jack Baird PhD 89 of Blue Lake, California, died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Mad River Hospital in Arcata, California. He was born on March 26, 1923 in Red Oak, Iowa to Frank (Jack) and Anna Baird and graduated from Wapello High School in 1941. Stan received his B.A. from Iowa State Teachers College in 1947 and in 1952 his Master of Business Education from the University of Colorado. In June 1967 he was awarded a Doctorate of Education by Oregon State University. He was a long time professor at Humboldt State University. Stan Baird was an icon in the daffodil community. He was a Founding Member of the Northern California Daffodil Society and served the NCDS as its president and show chairman. He was instrumental in the formation of the Oregon Daffodil Society. In 1994, the ADS awarded Stan its prestigious Silver Medal recognizing his continual outstanding service. He was also a member of the Iris Society and the Humboldt Rose Society. In 1997 he was awarded a bronze medal by the American Rose Society for outstanding service. Survivors include his nieces and nephew, Candy (Jake) Stineman of Winfield, IA, Phyllis Baird of Denver, CO, Kevin Baird of Lakewood, CO, Becky (Dale) Wear of Wilmington, DE, and Jennifer (Brian) Reynolds of Davenport, IA. Preceding Stan in death were his parents, and one brother, Malcolm Baird. A memorial celebration was held in his garden at Blue Lake on November 4, 2012.
