Theo Helen Feeney

Theo Helen Feeney Theo Helen Feeney, 88, of Eureka, CA. passed on October 30, 2013. She was born in New Ulm, Minnesota, on August 17, 1925. Her family moved to St. Paul, Minnesota when she was a young girl. Theo was a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of X-Ray Technology. Fortunately, prior to graduation, she met a handsome young surgical Resident at the University, Michael J. Feeney, M.D. Mike and Theo married, and relocated to San Diego, California, where Mike practiced urological medicine until his untimely passing on February 10, 1984. Mike was a skilled surgeon, Chief of Staff at Mercy Hospital, a faculty member at UC San Diego's Medical School, and a leader in the San Diego and California medical communities. Theo was a member of the San Diego Medical Auxiliary, Mercy Hospital and Sharp Hospital Auxiliaries, the Juniors of Social Service, and a volunteer at the Children's Hospital in San Diego. She was an active member of All Soul's Episcopal Church in Pt. Loma, and proudly and patiently served as an Acolyte Mother for several years. Theo fulfilled her penchant for travel, frequently hosting family members so they could share in the travel experience, on numerous trips to Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, South America, the (former) Soviet Union, Vienna and Prague, China, Japan, Africa and Antarctica. Once she even enjoyed a trip around the world on a Concorde jet! She moved to Eureka in 2002, to be closer to family. Once settled on the North Coast, Theo volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital, became an active bridge player at the Senior Resource Center, and treasured dancing and enjoying life with her friends at the Friendship Dance Club on Monday evenings. Theo's family expresses their sincere and heartfelt gratitude for the care and love she received from Larona Farnum, and her wonderful family and staff at Timber Ridge. More than once over recent years, when Theo would have a health setback or challenge, there were recommendations for admission to a skilled nursing facility. Each time, the Farnum family responded, in essence: "Heck no, we have this covered. Theo is staying right here!" The family is also most appreciative of the care and support Theo received over the years from Eureka Internal Medicine, particularly Doctors Lengyel and Abels, and from Humboldt Neurological Medical Group and Doctors Gambin and Ward. Theo was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Frances Egeland, and her husband, Michael J. Feeney, M.D. She is survived by her son, Craig M. Feeney, M.D., and his wife, Kerri, of Pasco, Washington, and her granddaughters, Caitlin, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Brenna, of Walla Walla, Washington. Theo is survived by her son, John T. Feeney, Superior Court Judge, his wife, Debra, of Eureka, and Grandsons, Brian, of San Diego, and Darren, of Miami, Florida. At Theo's request, no services are planned. Her family shall, however, be forever blessed with wonderful memories of a generous, classy and lovely lady. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.comand click on obits.
