Dorothy Bernice Nicholson age 97 of Fortuna, California, passed away on April 19, 2013. Dorothy was born in Sydney, Nebraska October 5, 1915 to Minnie and Ernest Miller. She attended Whittier High School graduating in 1934. Dorothy met James Nicholson prior to her graduating high school; they were married the following year February 14, 1935. Their first child Sherrill was born in 1939, son David was born 1945. James and Dorothy moved often to find work, finally settling in Fortuna California in 1948, which was home for the remainder of their lives. Dorothy worked for 32 years at Sea View Convalescent Home and St. Luke's Manor, retiring in 1980. Dorothy enjoyed swimming, camping, playing cards, photography, and spending time with friends at Fortuna Lutheran Church where she was a member for 54 years and most recently Campton Heights Baptist Church. She was a member of the Pocahontas Lodge in Scotia and Camera Club in Eureka. Dorothy loved most spending time with her family; she is survived by her daughter Sherrill Jones and husband Dennis of Modesto California, son David Nicholson Sr. and wife Linda of Fortuna California. Grandchildren include Sherrill's children; Lisa, Donna, and Diana David's children Gina David Jr. "Butch" and Kristie, 11 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by James Nicholson in 1983. Grandma spent her life devoted to the Lord, and is at rest in his arms, and is playing cards with Grandpa in heaven. Visitation will be held at Gobles Fortuna Mortuary, 560 12th Street, Fortuna, Tuesday April 23, 2012 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Chapel service will be held at Gobles Fortuna Mortuary on Wednesday, April, 24, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Michael Schellenberg officiating. Immediately following, a celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at Campton Heights Baptist Church, 1855 Cecil Ave, Fortuna, California. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to
