Carroll Virginia Johnston Carroll Johnston passed away peacefully on August 16, 2013 in Eureka, CA. She was born in Eureka on May 31, 1930, to Virginia and Bruce Roberts. She attended Washington Elementary, Eureka Junior High, and graduated from Eureka Senior High in 1948. Before entering Fredrick and Charles Beauty College, she worked for a short while at the California Barrel Company in Arcata. She met her husband Keith Hanley Johnston while he was stationed at Fields Landing aboard the Coast Guard Cutter, Ewing. In 1962, they moved their family of four to Hawkins Bar, CA having invested everything in a tiny country grocery store. The start led to two additional stores in the Klamath-Trinity area, Keith's markets of Hoopa and Willow Creek. For many years, Carroll was a member of Eureka High's Class of 1948's reunion committee. Through out her adult life, she maintained close contact with many class mates. She was a member of XI PHI Omicron Sorority, Christian Women's Club, Bigfoot Golf and Country Club, as well as being a supporter of the Willow Creek-China Flat Museum, and the Red Bud Theater. Carroll enjoyed family gatherings with in-laws and grandchildren, playing cards and puzzling with friends, the Senior Lunch program, and getting her hair and nails done every Friday at Brenda's Place. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Keith, her brother David Roberts wife Donna, and niece Nancy Roberts. She is survived by her sons Kraig Hanley Johnston (Brenda), Keir Hanley Johnston and wife Hiedi all of Willow Creek, CA, nieces Judy Walker, and Linda and husband John Davis all of Eureka, cherished grandchildren Katie Clark and husband Tom of Quincy, WA, Chris Johnston and wife Bonnie of Redding, CA, Logan, Tess, and Shae Johnston of Willow Creek, CA, great-grandchildren Jordan, Hunter, and Kylie Clark of Quincy, WA, Charlotte, Jasper, and Cora Johnston of Redding, CA, extended family Daniel and Pattie Brown of Flagstaff, AZ, Mike and Allison Brown and son Austin of Chandler, AZ, and Kevin and Heather Brown, and son Jacob and daughter Reagan of Huddleston, VA, and lifelong friend Doris Gildesgaurd of Eureka, CA. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Michael Palmer and staff, P.A. Jane Manning and the Willow Creek Community Health Center, St. Joseph Hospital, and the Kingdom Hall Crew; your efforts were much appreciated. A memorial celebration is being planned for the Fall Season and will be formally announced at a later date.
