Karl Giacomini Obituary

Karl Lloyd Giacomini Karl Giacomini, age 36, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 20, 2013 near his home in Hortonville, Wisconsin. Karl was born on March 9, 1977 in Eureka, California to proud parents Clint and Pam Giacomini. He grew up part of a large family involved in dairy farming and ranching in Humboldt County. Whether it was showing Jersey cows with Grandpa John, riding and roping with Grandpa Mickey, or hauling rodeo stock with his Dad, Karl never seemed to be very far from a cow or a horse. He was active in 4-H and FFA, graduating from Ferndale High School in 1996. He received a B.S. degree in Animal Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 2000. He remained active in his support of his alma mater serving as a member of the Animal Sciences Advisory Council where he consulted on design of the Animal Nutrition Center, and was Treasurer of the rodeo boosters. Through his time from Humboldt County to Cal Poly he was blessed with a nucleus of great friends, all cowboys, who stay close to this day. Following graduation, Karl accepted a professional opportunity with Cargill Animal Nutrition. He advanced within the company and held positions from New York to California, most recently as Manager of the Cargill Feed Mill in Little Chute, Wisconsin. In an earlier Wisconsin assignment Karl met Stephanie Simonton and they were married on May 22, 2004. The newlyweds moved to the Central Valley of California and resided in Oakdale where Karl continued his career with Cargill. In 2010 Karl had an opportunity to manage a plant in Wisconsin so they moved back to be closer to Stephanie's family and to start one of their own. They were blessed with a daughter, Clara Rose, in 2011 and she will be joined by a sister due in September. Karl is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and his daughter Clara. He is also survived by his mother, Pam Dillon of Eureka, California; sister, Tiffany (Dennis) Holmes of Escalon, California, and grandparents, Mickey and Elaine Dillon of Eureka, California. He was preceded in death by his father, Clint, and grandparents John and Lois Giacomini. The funeral liturgy for Karl will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 26, 2013 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, N2385 Municipal Drive in Greenville, Wisconsin. A visitation will be held on Thursday at the Wichmann Funeral Home Tri-County Chapel from 4:30 pm until 7:30 pm and on Friday morning at the church from 9:30 am until the time of mass. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 pm on Thursday. An additional celebration of Karl's life for his California friends and family will be scheduled and announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to honor Karl's life are made to an educational fund established for the benefit of his daughters. Contributions payable to "Giacomini Girls' College Fund" may be sent c/o Redwood Capital Bank, 1075 S. Fortuna Blvd., Fortuna, CA 95540. Karl was an example to everyone who knew him; be it as husband, father, brother, son, friend, or colleague. He touched many, and will be missed by all. Arrangements are under the care of Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton WI, 920-831-9905. You are invited to sign the on line condolences at www.wichmannfargo.com. Dear Pam, Tiffany and Family,
Lauren and I are saddened with the loss of Karl. We will never forget years ago when Clint delivered some hay to us and you all came to the ranch and Karl and Tiffany played with "Roo" one of our stock dogs who in turn herded them around the yard. It sticks in my memory and I hope in yours now and forever. Please know you are in our thoughts.

Stephanie and family, words can't begin to say how heartbroken everyone is. Karl will be missed by so many people. He had touched so many lives in such a positive way. On Sunday Clayton went to water his moms garden and I was reminded that Karl had built her garden beds while he stayed with Stan and Katie in May. That visit was so much fun, from -BQing for Katie's birthday to having him go to Claytons T-ball game. We will cherish that last visit forever. Karl had accomplished so much in his life, but most of all he gave back. From serving on the Cal Poly Rodeo board and the Cal Poly Animal Science advisory board. But most of all his giving of being an organ donor gave 7 strangers a better life. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Stephanie and family, I wish the miles were not so far between us, but I want to let you know how much Karl and you meant to everyone. These past few days as we reflect back on memories we had with Karl, through the tears has to be smiles. We were so fortunate when he was out here in May, that he stayed with Stan and Kt those few days. As Clayton watered his moms garden Sunday I was reminded that Karl had built the planter boxes for her. When I told Kts grandmother about Karl, she said how nice he had been to her and reminded me he had gone to Claytons t-ball game. That visit in May was so special, he and Stan went shopping for Kts birthday dinner, he brought me tequila and made cowboy margaritas for me, remembering they were my favorite. Karl was special in so many ways he had accomplished so much in his life, more than most do in a whole life time. But most of all he gave back. From serving on the CalPoly Rodeo Booster board and the Animal Science Department advisory board. But most of all he did what most people never do, he gave the greatest gift of life to 7 lucky people who didn't even know him by being an ORGAN DONOR. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Though we may not have seen eye to eye to often, I could always tell Karl had the best of intentions with every decision he made. No matter how rough the day was going, he would always greet you with a smile and ask how you were. He was very entertaining to talk with and always tried to teach you something new. Its sad to see a man so proud and so knowledgeable pass. My thoughts are with his friends and family.

Though I did not know Karl I do know the heartache for the family ~ I just lost my dad in a ranching accident 3 short weeks ago - the pain and broken heart is unbearable but the love and support from friends and family certainly makes things just a smidge better . Knowing the impact your husband, dad, and son made on the agriculture community will be seen through the outpouring of love from those he touched. May you accept all the obstacles God has put in front of you with grace ~ there are no words to make it better only the comfort of knowing that there are so many thinking of you during this difficult time whether they had the opportunity to meet or not . Our large agriculture family is one that reaches no boundaries.
Blessings ~~

I'll never forget the time I was on my way to class at Cal Poly and I found a dead buck along side the road near the rodeo boys' house. I loaded it up and took it over to see if they had a saw to cut the horns out. Karl felt the deer, and said 'its still warm, lets skin it it and eat it'....Apparently while I was in class dinner was served. Karl was certainly resourceful,a man with a big imagination, and and a man that never let you down when it came to putting a smile on your face. I gave Karl the horns...he'd earned them.

I honestly cannot find the words to express what Karl has meant to me. It was just a year ago when I heard Karl was going to be our new plant manager. I really didn't know what to think as Karl was making waves in Milton that could be felt all the way up in Little Chute.

It seemed as if we were going to be getting a real cowboy with both guns blazing. I knew however if someone could come make a change in our plant it would be Karl.

I was correct. Not only did Karl change us and the plant for the better.....He changed me! He made work a place I could enjoy once again. Karl's motivation to be the best at what we do and the drive to make it happen was addictive and will live on within me forever.

Karl has been a leader, a coach, a mentor but most importantly a friend. You will be missed! I look forward to seeing you again on the other side...

Karl was always fair and honest with me and you couldn't ask for more than that. He was the type of guy that you worked hard for just because you didn't want to let him down. I didn't just respect him, I liked him from the moment I met him. I can't explain why, I just did. And I'm going to miss him always. Adios Cowboy, hope I get to see you again.....
