Nov. 7, 1921-Oct. 13, 2010 Bob Mahood passed away peacefully on October 13, 2010 at his home in Redway. He was born on November 7, 1921 in Fairfax, California in Marin County. He attended Mt. Tamalpais High School and worked at his uncle's grocery store as a teenager. Bob met the "love of his life," Margie at a dance in Fairfax, where all the Bay Area high school kids went for recreation, dancing the night away under the stars to all the big bands of the era. He proposed to her but she insisted they were too young and the war was looming. Bob was called up during World War II to serve his country in the Army and went overseas. He later married Ethyl Darvin and together they had a daughter, Judy. Bob worked for the San Francisco Chronicle for 38 years. After his first wife died, Bob married Doris and had two boys, Carl and Bruce. Together they resided in Marin County and raised the two boys along with Bob's daughter, Judy. Bob's second wife, Doris, died and Bob was widowed once again. He reconnected with Margie Albright, his first love and they decided to live the rest of their lives together. Moving up to Miranda where Margie lived, Bob joined the senior group and spent many happy hours there. He was welcomed by Margie's friends, Jean and Andy McKaye and Gladys and Ted Madsen, and played pinochle and toured on vacations with them. During the time in Miranda he and Margie took daily walks through the redwoods, which they both loved. They took trips with family and friends to Europe, Russia, Greece, the Caribbean, Hawaiian Islands, and Costa Rica, where they were delighted by all the tropical birds. Several years ago they moved to Redway to a smaller home, joining the Healy Senior Center and continued to enjoy pinochle games, luncheons, trips, and activities with the group. When Margie's health started to fail, he drove her whenever she needed transportation and cared for her at home. Margie passed away in 2004, leaving him to handle his own medical problems. Thanks to the kindness of Judi Gonzales, his last days were made comfortable at home after spending much time traveling to Eureka to doctors, the hospital, and skilled nursing facilities. Bob is survived by his two sons, Carl Richard Mahood and Bruce Victor Mahood; grandchildren, Selena Bowers, Dylan Bowers, Jonnika Benjamin, Jason Bowers, and Laressa Bowers; and great-granddaughter, Abigail Benjamin. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Foster Emerson Mahood and Gladys Muriel Mahood; brothers, Walter Mahood and Foster Randolph Mahood; daughter, Judy Bowers; and his love, partner, and friend, Margie Albright. A memorial service for Bob will be held on Sunday, November 14, at noon at the Healy Senior Center in Redway, along with a 21-gun salute. All community members are invited to attend. Anyone wishing to leave donations in Bob's memory please submit them to the Healy Senior Center. Please sign the guest book at
