Bobby Stobaugh Obituary

Stobaugh Sr. Baptized; December 23, 1948 at the Sacred Heart Church, 546 Filmore Street in San Francisco according to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church. Marriage; by the State of California City and County of San Francisco on January 29, 1955. Then on March 13, 1966 according to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church; he married that woman again. Virginia Dawn Nichols, the mother of his five children and the auntie to their adopted son. This time they married at St. Philips Church, 725 Diamond Street in San Francisco. Born; Bobby Melvin Baby Nelson June 25, 1931. He was raised from six months old by Alex and Pearl Stobaugh and later adopted. His birth father's death preceded his birth by eleven months. He was preceded in death by his birth mother Margret Mary Berry from Kansas City, MO. His dad Alex L. Stobaugh of McKinleyville, CA. His mom Pearl May Stobaugh of McKinleyville. His daughter Sheree Lynn Stockham of McKinleyville, CA and six brothers and sisters Charles Buster Nelson, born in Eldon, MO. Clara Belle Nelson born in Eldon, MO. Mary Rita Nelson, Harry Clyde Nelson, Whane G. Nelson, and Peggy Jean Nelson all born in the township of Clark in Cole County, MO. He was a veteran of the United States Army and during his tour of duty he won a literacy award for a letter he wrote "What I Can Do For Freedom" for which he was presented with a George Washington Honor Medal in the 1961 Freedom Foundation letter writing contest. The Veterans Administration brought his health care up to a whole new level. Unlike the old power chair that held his hospital bed in place, his new power chair from the VA gave him a whole new sense of freedom which he enjoyed to the very end. Thanks to Brian from "Life On Wheels" he has been all over this house again. Family members would like to thank Home Delivered Meals. Even though he qualified to receive the meals for free he donated generously every month because he knew it took a lot of meal preparation and housekeeping responsibilities off of his son's shoulders. Education: High School; Graduated with honors from Pineville High School in Pineville, MO. Offered a scholarship to the University of MO but he turned it down to work with his Uncle, Allen Story in the Sheet Metal trade in San Francisco. After a disabling accident the family moved to Humboldt County so Grandpa could fish and Dad could retrain at College of the Redwoods where in 1975 he was a graduate with highest honors and a 3.93 GPA. He competed along with his son, Bobby Jr., with CR's intercollegiate speech team for 3 years, and in 1975 they went to the National Championship and they were crowned THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!! After College he worked Security at Redwood Acres where he became a familiar site at the door and he received an appreciation award from Six Rivers Racing Association.
