David Wayne Davenport A lifelong resident of Eureka, David Wayne Davenport passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. David graduated from Eureka Senior High School in 1981. During his school years, one of David's favorite subjects was music and he spent many years playing the violin. He met his wife and the love of his life, Lori Strickland, when they both performed in a production of "The Music Man." David and Lori were married on September 8, 1984 and had three children. At age 21 David enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served from 1983 to 1988. While in the Air Force, David and Lori spent two years abroad when he was stationed at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany. When they returned home, David worked for many years at Pacific Lumber Company in Scotia before pursuing another of his lifelong wishes to drive "big rig" trucks. David worked for Bettendorf Enterprises for the last 10 years and loved driving the big trucks he dreamed about as a child. He also enjoyed family camping trips to Jedediah Smith State Park. David will be forever remembered for his kind and gentle spirit and his willingness to always help those in need. He truly had a heart of gold and was always there with a smile regardless of the circumstance. David was preceded by his mother, Alma O. Davenport; his father-in-law Bill Strickland and his mother-in-law Kay Strickland. He is survived by his wife, Lori Davenport; his children, Angela Davenport, Christopher Davenport and Jacob Davenport; his father, Lashley "Pete" Davenport; siblings: William B. Davenport; Stella Flock (Steve); Marsha Davenport (Mark Fritzke); his nephew Neil Johnsen; as well as by his special family of Chihuahuas: Scooter, Charlie, Buster and Rocky, along with assorted cats.
