Delbert Goble Obituary

Delbert Chester Goble was born August 8, 1930 to Chester and Thelma Goble in Fortuna, California. Del was the oldest of three children. He attended a one room elementary schoolhouse in Beatrice and graduated from Fortuna High School in 1948. After graduating he enrolled in college at Humboldt State University. Two years later in 1950 he joined the United States Navy. During his enlistment he was stationed in Boston, Massachusetts where he met Emily Thomas, his bride to be. They were married on January 2nd 1955 and returned to the Humboldt area, residing in Ferndale. They had three children, James, Timothy and Debra. In 1966 Delbert took his family to Moses Lake, Washington where he went to work for Arden's Dairy Plant as a pasteurizer. During his years in Moses Lake, Delbert won awards for Trap Shooting, enjoyed deer and elk hunting and farming. In 1988 he retired from the dairy plant and once again returned to Humboldt County. This time Delbert fulfilled a lifelong dream of returning to Ferndale and farming on his family's property on Goble Lane. The Goble's had pioneered and settled this land in the 1800's and now Delbert had returned to carry on the family legacy. For the past twenty two years Delbert and Emily have been living on Goble Lane, welcoming family, friends and neighbors to the community. Delbert further pursued his passions for woodworking, photography and restoring and rebuilding tractors, balers and rakes. Delbert became well known for being the expert when it came to balers. Friday morning, November 5th 2010, Delbert passed away at his home on Goble Lane. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by his loving wife Emily, son James & wife Cindy, daughter Debra & husband Keith, sister Patricia & husband Jim, sister Arlene& husband Don, grandchildren Jennifer, Amy, Timothy, Jacob, Michael, Aaron, Isaac, Sarah & Rachel and six great grandchildren. Del was preceded in death by parents Chester and Thelma and son Timothy. Funeral services will be held for Delbert on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Goble's Fortuna Mortuary. A reception will follow with all friends and family welcome. A small private family internment will conclude at Ocean View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary. I am Jane Ellen White-Schindler a long lost cousin of Delbert. I have so many happy memories of Beatrice and the farm when Delbert, Patsy and I would slide down the hills on cardboard and play in the hayloft. I'm so sorry to hear of Delberts passing but I choose to remember him by the good times we had as children.
