Dixie Cardoza Obituary

May 11, 1937~ June 10, 2011 Dixie was born to Ernest and Anna Dawson in Westwood, Ca. before coming to Humboldt County, where she spent most of her life. She was a graduate of Arcata High School class of 1955. Dixie was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her husband Albert in 2009. She worked for Bank of America for many years and made lifelong friendships with her coworkers. She had been active in the Moose Lodge with her late husband Albert. She always had a good time there with friends, cooking, enjoying a drink or cutting up the dance floor as she loved to dance and she was very good at it. She also loved to travel and see new places. She enjoyed many trips with her dear friend Irene. Mom and I went on a cruise to Mexico in April and we had a great time. Mom has suffered with Peripheral Vascular disease for the last two to three years which has caused her a lot of pain. She has no pain now. God Bless you Mom, I love you. Thanks for the good times we shared; Muffin will miss you, but she will be well cared for by the ones who love her. She will be missed dearly as she had many close friends that she loved so. Survivors include daughter Cynthia Nelson, Mesa, Az., Kathryn Deskins and son-in-law David, Eureka, Ca.; grandchildren Kelli Deskins, San Diego, Ca. Heidi Deskins, McKinleyville, Ca., Meghan Nelson, Mesa, Az., and Mathew Hauser, Carlsbad; Ca. She was also the proud Great-Grammy to Malania Nicole born to Heidi in September 2010. She leaves brothers Neil Dawson, Brownwood; Tx. and Norman Evernden, Redding, Ca. She also survived by Albert's children Jerry Cardoza and wife Joanne of Eureka, Ca., Cheryl Cardoza, Santa Rosa, Ca. Brothers and sisters-in-law Joe and Judy Cardoza and Flora Cardoza of Fortuna, Ca. Thank you to mom's best friends, Irene Stidston, Dorothy Bernardi and Marie Wooten for being by her side til the end. At Mom's request there will be a private graveside service. Arrangements are under the care Sanders Funeral Home, Eureka. Please sign the guest book at www.Times-Standard.com, click obits.

You will never be forgotten Dixie, In my heart you are still with me. Love ya,

I extend my condolences. Sorry for late entry, I only just found Dixie's obituary while searching for her current contact info. Dixie and my father are 2nd cousins. I was hoping to tell Dixie about a breakthrough in a genealogical brick wall we had been working on for about fifteen years. She would have been overjoyed with the news. Just as I was when she provided key info about my family surname fifteen years ago.

Dixie's family, especially Kelli
Our sympathy goes out to you. Johnnie & I went to Arcata High with Dixie & always remember what a wonderful happy gal she had been. When she married Al he helped Johnnie sponsor the Sr. softball Moose team & even get uniforms from Jerry. They worked so hard at the Moose together. I called Dixie before her operation & told her I would be praying for her. When I called again the following week thinking she was home, her daughter said she was still in a lot of pain. We went to the Moose & heard from so many very teary eyed ladies that she had passed away. They loved her dearly & so did we. I wrote Gail Enright & had notified others of her operation. God will Bless her happy smile where she will be joined with Al.

Grandma, i was ur first grandchild, your "angel," and your friend. Thank you for all the wisdom, love and guidance u brought to my life. I will miss your dimples and laugh when i make a joke, your goofy smile when you thing something "isn't very cute" and special care u gave to those in your life. U and pappa taught the value of honesty, loyalty and giving back to others. You already know how much I love u, I tell u every time on the phone, just now I'll keep telling u in my prayers. I'll miss u grandma, please watch over us and give pappa a smooch for me.
