Obituary Condolences

Jack (John H.) Nicholls Jack (John H.) Nicholls from McKinleyville passed away on Friday the 9th of November in McKinleyville at the age of 82. He was born February 13, 1930. The only child of John and Frances Nicholls. He was raised in Guerneville at the famous Nicholls Hotel. He graduated from Analy high school in Sebastopol. He served a total of six years in the Army National Guard. He and his bride Bernice Nicholls raised their family of three sons in the Guerneville and Healdsburg areas while Jack worked for Blasi Construction until 1977. In 1977 Jack moved his family north to Humboldt County and started Nicholls Trucking Inc., a hauler of road building materials for road projects in the north state. Even after retirement, Jack continued to drive the trucks for many years. He also loved to hunt, garden and take gambling trips with his wife Bernice to Reno. He was a member of Baywood Golf and Country Club for many years, he was also a memeber of McKinleyville Lions club where he served for over 60 years in over 5 different Lions clubs between Healdsburg and Arcata, and McKinleyville, where he loved to do the White Cane fundraiser with his friend Bob Wainwright in front of K-Mart in McKinleyville. He belonged to the Who Who club and the Dump Truck Owners Association. As a young man in Guerneville he participated in the annual parade and was bestowed the title of honorary mayor of Stumptown in Guerneville. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Bernice Nicholls and both of his parents. He is survived by their three sons: John L. Nicholls and his wife Cheryl of McKinleyville, his son Sam Nicholls of McKinleyville, and his son Jim Nicholls and his wife Danielle of Sacramento. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Becky Willis of Eagle Mountain, UT, John E. Nicholls of McKinleyville, Kelly Tolbert of Eagle Mountain, UT, and Tyler Nicholls of Sacramento. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren. The family sends a special thanks to the caring staff at Timber Ridge who took such great care of Jack during his short stay there. Also to the nurses and staff of Mad River Hospital who also took great care of Jack during his stay there. There will be a Celebration of Life held for Jack at the Baywood Golf and Country Club at 3600 Buttermilk Lane, Arcata, CA on the 24th of NOVEMBER 2012 from 1pm to 3pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the local Lions Club at PO box 1336, Blue Lake, CA 95525. Arrangements under the care of Paul's Chapel.
