Laura Allgire was born Sept 15, 1911 and died Dec. 24 2010; peacefully in her sleep after 99 years of a productive life that began in Texas. She moved to Eureka, Ca. around 1952 with her mother and created her hair salon (Allgires Beauty Salon) putting into motion her dream of serving the women of Eureka. Laura accomplished much in her life time and excelled at all she set her hand to. In her twenties she was the Women's Skeet Shooting Champ of Oklahoma. She took on flying and owning her own airplane before it was popular for women to fly. She was a strong advocate for animals owning her own dog kennel in 1965; and owning dogs who came into her life by rescuing dogs from the animal shelter. Laura belonged to the Moose, the Pocahontas, and American Women's Business Association to name a few. Laura is survived by 5 nephews and 2 nieces and their families. Services will be held in Corning on Friday the 7th of January beginning with a Rosary at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Graveside services will follow directly after the Rosary. Care is under the direction of Pierce Mortuary Chapels of Eureka, California and Hall Brothers Corning Mortuary in Corning, California.
