Lorna Jeanne State Areklett

Obituary Condolences

85, passed away on June 12, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was a Native Californian and a resident of Eureka, CA for 66 years. Lorna was the eldest child born to Louise and Herbert State on September 17, 1926, in Oakland, CA. As a young women she worked at a soda fountain in the East Bay. She was introduced by her best friend and cousin, Marion, to a handsome sailor, Glenn Areklett. They were married on November 4, 1943 in Berkley, CA in The Little Chapel of the Flowers. Her handsome sailor shipped out 10 days later to the South Pacific. When he returned, they eventually moved to Glenn's hometown, Eureka, where they raised their 3 children; Linda, Glenn and Patti. Lorna was able to stay at home raising her family, though in the late '60's she and Glenn were co-owners of FA Matthews Paint dealership, where they worked together for many years. Lorna was very artistically inclined and enjoyed helping customers with their choices of color and wallpaper. She was also an excellent seamstress, making beautiful outfits for herself and her daughters. Lorna and Glenn loved to travel and spent many happy Baywood Golf trips with their friends. Hawaii was a particularly favorite destination. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Erling Glenn Areklett; parents Edna and Herbert State; mother Louise Duvall; brothers Robert State and Fred Duvall; and sister Dolly Anderson. She is survived by her children Linda Axtman and husband James, Glenn Areklett, and Patricia Weber and husband Carl; grandchildren Tohnia Miller, Michael Areklett, Merideth Manning, Emily Areklett, Jacquline Campbell, Jeffrey Weber and wife Grace Ann, Gregory Weber and wife Christie, Andrea Weber Piazza and husband Anthony, and Michael Weber; great-grandchildren, Liam, Jared, Davis, Samuel, Noah, Sara, Zane, Christian, Basil, Harrison, Carlie-Ann, and Chrystal; sister Shirley Sandy and husband Gene; cousin Tom State; sister-in-law Jeannie State Wigginton; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Mary, Mom's caregiver for all that she has done. Special appreciation to the doctors and staff of St. Joseph Hospital who were so attentive. Her very last days were spent at Eureka Healthcare and Rehabilitation. We cannot express enough their gracious, gentle, loving care of our Mother. Hospice also lovingly attended to her needs and we ask that any donations might be made to Hospice of Humboldt in her name. She was truly cared for by Angels in her last days. A service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 1:00 pm. Care is under the direction of Pierce Mortuary Chapels, Eureka, California.
