Margaret Rosenberg Obituary

born Nov. 21, 1922, Ann Arbor, MI to William and Lillian "Mollie" (Hopkins) Young, the oldest of 3 children. Peggy died at her home at Alder Bay, Eureka on Oct. 7, 2010 at the age of 87. Peggy grew up in Ann Arbor, MI and Santa Monica, CA. She graduated from Children's Hospital Nursing School in San Francisco in 1945. It was at Children's Hospital that she met her husband, Dr. Benjamin "Buddy" Rosenberg. They were married in 1945 and moved to Eureka in 1949 where Dr. Rosenberg practiced pediatrics for 35 years. Peggy was an avid golfer, being a charter member of Baywood Golf & Country Club, Ladies Club Champion for several years and founder of Baywood's Junior Golf Program. Peggy also spent many years as a volunteer for numerous organizations including the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. Peg was also a bridge player and loved reading, gardening and needlework. Peggy's biggest joy in life was her family, especially her granddaughters. She was thrilled to be able to hold her new great-granddaughter before she died. Peggy was predeceased by brother James Young and sister Edna Larson and her loving husband, Buddy Rosenberg, MD. She is survived by her children, Stephen J. Rosenberg (Karen Welsh), Eureka, Margaret R. Coleman (Dennis), Fortuna, Cynthia A. Rosenberg (Grady Ford), Eureka, and Stuart W. Rosenberg (Tishri Anderson), Eureka; beloved granddaughters Mollie M. Hartman, Sacramento, CA and Anna J. Hartman, Scottsdale, AZ; great-granddaughter Sophie Ann Hartman of Sacramento. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Peggy's family would like to thank the staff of Alder Bay for their loving care of Peggy over the last seven years. We would also like to thank Hospice of Humboldt and Visiting Angels for their care during Peggy's final days. Special thanks also to Drs. Jack Irvine, Asa Stockton, and Michael Fratkin. At Peggy's request, there will be no funeral services. Memorial contributions in Peggy's memory may be made to Hospice of Humboldt or your favorite charity. Dear Rosenberg family. Reading of Peggy's passing has brought up many memories. When Chris and I relocated to Eureka almost 31 years ago, it was Peg who made the transition easy. She had rented a wonderful appartment for us, had the utilities turned on and even had flowers in the place as a wonderful welcome for two Southern Californians about to start life in Humboldt County. When Annette had her appendix out shortly after arriving, Peggy brought over dinner. She certainly knew what it was like to be married to a pediatrician and could share a laugh about middle of the night calls. I'm sure your memories are plentiful and it's bitter-sweet to recall them at this time.
Thinking of you, Chris and Annette Cody

Margie, Steve, Cindee, Stewart, and family.

Peggy will always have a special place in my heart. When she and Buddy opened your home to Mimi and I so many years ago, when we moved to Eureka, she gave me grounding which at the time was desperately needed. Love you all and am so sorry for your loss, she had such a cute sense of humor and joy.

Hugs and Love,
Susan

Our families go back over fifty years - there are so many memories. Peggy had a real off beat sense of humor, that always made me laugh. I was teaching a class at Alder Bay until June 2009 - I would see Peggy about once a week. She always looked good and was interesting to talk with. I am sorry for your loss. She will be remembered and missed.
Sincerely, Nancy Mathews

Dear Steve, Marggie, Cindy, and Stu,

I will always remember Peggy as cheerful, loving and kind to me. Before Alder Bay she would take special time to come and visit me, often bringing me a Christmas ornament that she made. I know how much she loved her family and her grandchildren. How wonderful that she was able to see her newest great grandchild. You too will feel your mother's presence continuing to guide you in your everyday decisions. She was a wonderful role model and citizen who gave back to the community she loved. She will be missed.

Love,
Mimi Battle
