Opal Mae Thompson Obituary
Opal Mae Thompson Opal Mae Thompson, of Eureka passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 with family and friends by her side. She was 87. Opal was born and raised in Eustace, Texas, on January 27, 1927. After graduating from Sam Houston High School where she excelled In girls basketball, softball, and sang in the High School Choir, she moved to Fort Lewis Army Base outside of Tacoma, Washington where her brother Curly was stationed. A few months later she met her brothers friend Earl Thompson, who was also in the Army. Mom and Dad were married on February 19, 1948. They were married 54 years before Dad passed away in 2003. Mom was blessed with a beautiful voice, and was singing up to the last few days of her life. The Thompson Gospel Quartet, made up of Mom, Dad, a brother, Hervil and his wife Jean, ministered in music extensively throughout Southern Washington, and Northern California on weekends from 1947 through 1962 in local churches, revivals, and camp meetings. Mom and Dad owned and operated the Thompson Residential Care Home in Eureka. Mom managed the business for 28 years. She was a great cook. She was known by family and friends for her "Homemade Enchiladas", that she made from scratch. This was a family tradition of having this special meal for all family birthdays that started in 1959. Mom was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Thompson; daughter, JoLynn Thompson Miller; in 2003. Her parents, two brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by her son Tom, and his wife Ginny, of Eureka; Five Grand-daughters and their families; Terri Lynn Selvage, and her Fianc‚, Tony Sarto, of Windsor, Ca.; Kimberly and William Ferris, of Palo Cedro, Ca; Sandy and Tim Thomason, of Kerrville, Texas; Jen and Tom Galovich, of Windsor, Ca.; Christina and Michael Parker, of Yuba City, Ca. Ten Great-grandchildren: Ashley, Jeremiah, and Katie Ferris; Natalie Selvage and Donny Sarto, Mason and Mitchell Galovich; and Bryce and Phoebe Jo Parker. Also, her son-in-law Rob Miller, of Kerrville, Texas Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service for Opal, Monday, April 28, 2014, 1PM at Sanders Funeral Home 1835 E Street, in Eureka. A private incryptment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, in Eureka. A special thanks to the caregivers of Hospice of Humboldt for their excellent care to Mom. If desired, donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of Humboldt, 2010 Myrtle Avenue, in Eureka, Ca. 95501. Arrangements are under the care of Sanders Funeral Home, in Eureka.
