Peter Horner Obituary

Ocean- lover that he was, Peter Stirling Horner passed on September 20, 2010 to another destination as yet unknown to us, dying at his Trinidad home. Pete, as he was usually known, was recently considering resumption of his prior career of massage therapy, a college degree earned here. It was an occupation where-in he found great satisfaction relieving other people's body aches and pains. Loving a toasty fire himself, for 14 years he cut and delivered firewood to the community at large. Adept at caring for plants he, for sometime ran a business called "Surf and Turf", a landscaping and gardening venture, helping people develop and keep their gardens in order. Being a long time ocean surfer which he so thoroughly enjoyed, this past Saturday, his surfing long board was taken to Crescent City by fellow surfers in a memorial commemorating his great enjoyment of that sport. Peter never married but he leaves behind many friends and relatives, as well as his immediate family of his mother: Marian B. Nicholson of Trinidad, and his sister Helen Thornock of Annabella Utah. We believe that Peter would prefer not having the formality of a memorial service but would instead like each of his friends to remember him- each in his own special way. Hi to all of us out here who Loved this man! I am still at such a big loss without Peter. I had over eight Wonderful filled with Love days with this man, and now I cherish all those memories , all those BBQ's, all those words of wisdom, hugs, Love beyond any thing else Ive ever known memories. I wasant her when Peter passed, but came back to calif. shortly after. My last memory of my Peter was him blowing me a kiss from the Chevron station. I was driving by, he looked over his truck, as he was getting into it, saw me, and as always, he never missed a thing in all of his going's & coming's. Blew me the last kiss! Words will never be able say what he meant to me, and now that he's absent in the body, he's still here in his soul & spirit. Peter gave Love to soooo many, without even ever thinking of getting anything in return from anyone. I know so many didnt understand him, but we did. We knew what was in his steps, why he stepped the way he did, and I will say this, he was ALWAYS on a Mission!!! he would get up and head right for the door, it was either first to go see the waves, or call someone about something they may need. Peter would give anyone his last dollar, anything to eat, and he would do without.he could out work any one, knew all their was to know about any plant or flower. he could cook the very best Horner's Potatoes, and just throw anything together, and have it be the best to taste ever!! he gave me such joy, such Love, such wisdom, that now I understand many things that I just didnt see back then. I Love you Pete Horner!!! This gal will always have your back! We miss you, miss what you did for us all, our children, your family, and just all the 1,000's you helped in this world. You were the saint. You wore it proud, and you know what?? You had the right too! Love You Always! I'll always keep your spot free of weeds!! Your Agate's in my jar & More than anything, Your Love & Memories in my Soul. You always told me of you Flying Dreams, and your joy of telling me them, and now I know why. Your flying dreams were you stepping closer to where you were heading. And NOW your There***** Rest In Perfect Peace***** Your Away From The Storms Now, My Love*****

aloha Pete:
Oh, the times we shared, right? Surfing, camping, BBQ's (with the now infamous Horner Potatoes), road trips, etc....When was it, about 1978 when we met, and you became an immediate friend. My girls called you uncle Pete. You, Mike and I scoured the north coast and hunted up waves and adventure beyond count. How many hours have we shared shivering over some beach fire hoping to gather enough warmth to get out into the surf again? How many fruitless miles have we shared chasing a random swell; North Beach, Garth's, Whalers, rivermouth, lagoons, "secrets", the cove trips at Deadman's and No-Pass. How many times did we solve the world's woes while combing for elusive agates when the surf defied us? These are the moments and the ways I will remember you Pete. Until we meet.........

Sadly, I was just told of the passing of Pete. Even though I moved away from Trinidad 4 years ago, I have kept certain fixed images in my minds eye....and Peter in that wood field is one of them. Good bye, Pete--you were one of a kind.

Pete, you've been a close friend for over 30 years. Our love for you will never change, and we honor who you REALLY were. We'll keep an eye on Horner's Corner, and look for your Spirit in the waves of your favorite haunts, and in the smoke from wherever good friends BBQ. And thanks for the 'Peter Potatoes' legacy! Style ON Peter, we'll take good care of your board, memory, friends & family. Enjoy the warm waters, glassy peaks, and offshore breezes, and see ya on the Other Side!
