Obituary Condolences

PHILIP JULIAN DELONG Philip Julian DeLong died on October 26, just a week after his 88th birthday. He was born October 19, 1925 to Augustus J. and Anna R. DeLong, the last of their three children, in Eureka, CA. He graduated from Eureka High School in 1943. He spent 2½years in the U.S. Navy during World War II as well as 1½years during the Korean War. He attended the University of Oregon and Oregon State University and graduated from the University of Oregon in 1950. While in college, he courted Mary Harriet Tracy, also from Eureka, and they married on Christmas Day in Eureka in 1947. They had three children, Ruth (1950), Martha (1952), and Philip (1958). He and Mary Harriet were married for 46 years until she died in 1994. About two years later he met and fell in love with Doris Jean Hamilton. They married in 1997 and enjoyed 16 great years together, living in Fortuna. He spent the majority of his career working for Simpson Timber Company, going to work for their Arcata office in 1952 as an accountant. He worked for Simpson in Arcata, Seattle, and Shelton, WA., in accounting and helping in the initial transition to personal computers. He retired in 1991. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, his two siblings, Robert and Judith, Mary Harriet, and his oldest daughter, Ruth. He is survived by his wife Doris, his children Martha and Philip, stepchildren Bonnie Ankiewitz, Sandra Lee, and Jan Stout, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 10, at 4 pm at the Fortuna United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Humboldt County Historical Society, Planned Parenthood, the Fortuna United Methodist Church, or a .
