Sigmund Scala March 20, 1930- Nov 25, 2013 Sigmund Scala, longtime resident of Arcata, CA passed away peacefully on November 25, 2013 at age 83. He was born Sigmund Wojcikiewicz on March 20, 1930 to Tadeusz and Maria Wojcikiewicz in Tarnopol Poland. Sig was a lifelong snow skier, bicyclist, photographer, art and history buff. He immigrated to the US on September 6, 1949 and was employed as a mechanical engineer in Chicago, Ill. He joined the Marines in January 1952 and became a naturalized American citizen on June 22, 1954 upon which he changed his surname from Wojcikiewicz to Scala in honor of his mother's maiden name. He served honorably in the US Marine Corps transitioning to civilian life as an electrical research engineer with the Stanford Research Institute in January 1961. He retired from SRI in 1992 and moved to Aptos CA, then Arcata in 1997. He was a true Renaissance man and will be greatly missed by numerous friends and family.
