Thestle Edleen Mays Obituary
Thestle Edleen Mays Thestle Edleen Pennington Mays born August 11, 1926 in Arkansas, at the foot of a mountain, to Jesse and Virgie Pennington. Left this earth to join her beloved husband Fred and most importantly her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 11, 2013. Thestle was a devoted member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle. Her family and faith is what she lived her life by and for. She was 16years old when she fell head over heels in love with Fredrick Lee Mays. Two years later, Fred proposed and the rest is history. On October 31, 1942, Fred was drafted and served in World War 2. During the three years he was in the Army; Thestle gave birth to her first born, Fredrick Marion. After the birth of their second child, Teddy Marvin, the family moved to Gridley, California in June 1947 where Neal William, Leona Joyce, and Leana Joy were born. Then later moved to McKinleyville where their last son Christopher Lee Roy was born in 1960. Thestle enjoyed spending time with her family. She worked as a 4H leader teaching sewing, crocheting, and knitting. She spent many years teaching Sunday school. Amongst her many students were her grand children. For years she volunteered at the school library. Later in her and Fred's retirement they spent many years helping at the Brown Bag Senior Outreach. She always enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking. She looked forward to her grand children visiting and making them their favorite dishes out of her many specialties. Not only did Thestle spend time with her grand children but also the neighborhood children. She will always be known as Grandma Mays. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred, son Christopher and son in-law Jim Perkins. Thestle was the last remaining of the Pennington children. Thestle is survived by her children- Frederick and Georgia Mays, Ted and Janet Mays, Neal and Ashley Mays, Leona and Carl Barrett, and Leana Perkins. She had 20 grandchildren and tons of precious great grandchildren. Thestle will be missed by all and never forgotten! Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com and click on obits.
