William Delbert "Bill" Turner

William Turner Obituary

of McKinleyville passed away on October 10, 2010. Bill was born on May 15, 1935, in Eureka, California to Edward and Anna Turner. Bill attended school in Shively where his father was the principal throughout his childhood. Bill spent most of his life in Northern California hauling logs and on the roads driving truck. Bill had a true passion for classic cars and trucks and could be found a lot of the time with either a paint gun or a wrench in his hand. He could fix almost anything and could make a tool if you couldn't find one that would work. He was an avid NASCAR fan and always cheering his boy Jeff Gordon #24 on and bragging about his racing days on the old dirt track when stock car racing was a real sport and earned the name "Turnover Turner" out at the Acres. Bill was a true Man in every sense of the word and took pride in working hard. Bill made lifelong friends and had many good stories about how they became friends. He married the love of his life 'Patsey' in 1977 and from that moment on they were inseparable: bowling, bingo, fishing, card games with friends, camping, BMX racing, stock car races, drag races, fixing old cars, quick trips to Reno, Friday night dinners. Patsey was a housewife to her "Billie T" and he loved taking care of her, even when she became disabled he never left her side. His passing came not long after Patsey, his loving wife and some say it was from a broken heart. Bill's passing was preceded by his parents Edward and Anna Turner, nephew Bruce Cringle, and his granddaughters Meghan and Danielle. Bill is survived by his loving family, children, numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many lifelong friends. A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at the Mad River Grange, 110 Hatchery Rd. Blue Lake, 12 p.m. A potluck will be held. To Bill's children: We want you to know how much we liked your Dad. We had several Bible discussions with him when we studied the Bible with Patsy. He was a kind man with a great sense of humor. Even though he wasn't a religious man, he always greeted us with respect. We miss the discussions we had with him.

I knew Bill and Patsey from the time I started working at Hometown Buffet, in Eureka, and I loved them. They were always funny and nice people to be around. I remember Bill always giving me a bad time and his wife telling him, "Be quiet!" I will miss Bill and Patsey. I have returned many times to Hometown Buffet since I have left there, and I always look for them with my wife, when we visit, but now it will not be the same knowing that they will never again grace us with their presence, but their spirits will always be with me!

I was just thinking about Bill the other day. Bill was one of my favorite people and was very dear to me, I will miss him. I have many memories of great company with him and Pat that will never fade away. I enjoyed playing bingo with him, the great conversations, & comfortably being around a down to earth person. My condolences to the family.
