Dorothy M. Grandy At the age of 95, Dorothy left our world on July 4, 2014. We cannot begin to tell you the meaning and love our beloved "Granny" brought to the lives of our family. She was our rock, our strength and our weakness, giver of comfort, wisdom and honesty, and most of all, the love of all our lives. This delicate, yet tough-skinned beauty was born to Albert and Nora Pullen on June 26, 1919 in Eureka, California. She had two brothers, Albert Pullen and Elmer "Fergie" Ferguson. She spent her young life raised a country girl. She enjoyed the outdoors and her love for animals and family. On October 4, 1937 Dorothy married the love of her life. She and Floyd lived first at Alton, owning and operating "Grandy's cash grocery and fountain". Later, moving to Ferndale and settling into their home at the end of Price Creek Road and starting their family. Born to them were two sons, Arlin Dale (born in Fortuna), and Gary Eugene (born in Scotia). At this time they owned an apartment building In Berkley, housed with college students, that they visited periodically with their sons. As a young couple, Dorothy and Floyd enjoyed their growing sons, ranch life and their animals, picnicking and camping with close friends and family. Their love for camping continued over the years with their grandchildren. The entire family, (also accompanied by Dorothy's nieces' family Sherry and Frank Chairez with Allison and Ryan and Ann and Ron Tucker and her brother Fergie and his wife Helen) enjoyed time spent at Ruth, Willow Creek and Ballard Lake. Dorothy loved life; she loved her family immensely as well as her friends. She loved her pets, baking in her kitchen, gardening and the beauty of nature and its many colors. She is an inspiration to her family in more ways than you could ever imagine, but her love for family and life is what inspires us most. We hope we can all live the rest of our lives with the same honor and respect as she did. We will always remember the time we spent together and we will love her forever. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Gary (Silvia) Grandy and Arlin Grandy of Ferndale, grandchildren David Grandy of Fortuna, Patty Newmaker (Bill Garlinghouse) of Carlotta, Trudy (Mark) Leonardo and Dennis (Jennifer) Grandy of Ferndale, daughter-in-Law Arlene Manzi of Ferndale, nieces Sherry (Frank) Chairez and Ann (Ron) Tucker, Natalie Cady and Scott Tucker of Fortuna, Pat (Roy) Sayer and Brad Sayer of Hydesville, Great grandchildren, Bobby and Brandon Newmaker, Mitchell and Grace Grandy, Jaylin and Haydin Grandy, Kayla, Jaron and David Leonardo, life-long friends Al and Betty Hunt of Fortuna and Coralee Griffin of Ferndale, special friends Karen DelAngelo of Fortuna and Melody Vanderhorst of Eureka, caregivers Shirley Tiller of Fortuna, Carmen Rosenburg of Fortuna, Courtne Munson of Rio Dell and Melissa Young of Ferndale. She is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Nora Pullen, brothers Albert Pullen and Elmer "Fergie" Ferguson and his wife Helen, her husband Floyd Grandy and her granddaughter Vicky Grandy. In Memory It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone. A part of us went with you, The day God took you home. If tears could build a stairway, And heartaches make a lane, We'd walk our way to heaven, And bring you home again. In life we loved you dearly, In death we love you still, In our hearts you hold a special place, No one could ever fill.
