1914-2010 George Frederick Walker, Jr., a retired Presbyterian minister and California educator, passed away on August 12, 2010 at the La Vida Llena Healthcare Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 95. He was born October 5, 1914 in Leavenworth, Kansas and graduated from high school in Polson, Montana in 1933. George attended college in Texas, graduating from Baylor University in Waco and continuing his education at the Louisville Theological Seminary in Kentucky. While he was at Baylor, he met Florabel Posey ("Bobbi") and in 1939, they were married in Austin, Texas. The couple lived in Louisville, where Rev. Walker was serving as a minister. Following the birth of their first child, Kay, in 1941, the family moved to Washington where their second child, Earl, was born in Seattle in 1943. When World War II began, Rev. Walker enlisted in the military to serve as a Navy chaplain in the south Pacific. Following the war, he was a minister at several churches in southern California where their third child, Randall, was born in Pasadena in 1948. The Walkers moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1960 and to Humboldt County in 1968, living first at Big Lagoon and then later in Eureka. In addition to his ministry, he began another career as the assistant to the Dean of Continuing Education at Humboldt State University until he retired. In 1990, George and Bobbi moved to New Mexico to live at the La Vida Llena Retirement Community in Albuquerque. Bobbi passed away in 1992 and in 1993 George married Jean Gregg, a resident at La Vida Llena. During his later years, George and Jean enjoyed good health which allowed them to travel extensively. George Walker was dearly loved by his family, his parishioners, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was unfailingly positive and enthusiastic about life and expressed nothing but kindness and goodwill to all around him.
